The Return Of The ASICS GEL SD LYTE
The ASICS GEL-SD LYTE is officially making a comeback, and we have Comme des Garçons to thank for the early heads-up. Their SHIRT line previewed a collaboration back in June, which tipped everyone off about the shoe̵7;s return. While that specific CDG version isn’t landing until Spring/Summer 2026, the bigger news is that ASICS is fully re-issuing the classic early-2010s model and they’ve put Kiko Kostadinov in charge of the whole revival. It looks like this retro is getting the high-fashion treatment from the start.
We just got our first look at the new ASICS UB12-S GEL-SD LYTE, and it’s clear this isn’t your average retro. Two colorways are on the way Lichen Rock and Rust Orange both rocking the classic SD LYTE shape but with a serious outdoor upgrade. The most noticeable change? Those chunky, asymmetrical pull-tabs strapped to the tongue, giving the shoe a rugged, gorpcore vibe.
It’s a totally different direction than the clean, primary-colored pairs we saw from Comme des Garçons. Instead of minimalism, ASICS and Kiko are leaning hard into the technical outdoors look, with earthy tones you’d normally see on high-end hiking gear.
Look for the GEL-SD LYTE to become a major player for ASICS in 2026, with a full lineup of collaborations and general releases already in the works. For now, you can get a closer look at the first pairs hitting select retailers like Premier. Keep an eye out this is just the beginning of the comeback.
