12 best Jordan Releases of 2019
">No matter who you are; a sneakerhead, a hype beast, a basketball lover or just a fashion lover in general – everyone knows the name Jordan. In this writers eyes the best player to ever grace the NBA, Michael Jordan or The GOAT (Greatest of All Time) not only set the standard for being the greatest basketball player of all time but also started the craze around sneaker releases.
The Air Jordan 1 was the shoe that started it all – designed and released in 1985 towards the tail end of Michael Jordan’s rookie year the BRED (Black & Red) Air Jordan 1 was an absolute breakthrough in not only sneaker technology but fashion on the court of the NBA. The colourway resulted in the legend that the shoe was actually banned from usage in games and Jordan himself was supposedly fined USD$5,000 per game that he wore the shoes.
Whether this is true or not, as soon as rumours spread that NBA weren’t happy the crowds started to flock to purchase the shoes. Stock’s flew off the shelves in a matter of days and thus started the craze behind sneaker releases.
Since 1985 and the release of the original Jordan 1 we have seen a total of 33x differing Air Jordan silhouettes and more than 200+ varying colorways across the varying silhouettes themselves be released. Not only has Nike released their own colourways but every designer or fashion forward celebrity has wanted to collaborate on a Jordan silhouette in the past 20 years.
Each year Jordan brand releases some of the most sort after/ notable releases for sneakerheads. A good majority of these releases are so sought after that the resale prices become stuff of legends – over the years releases such as; the Air Jordan x OVO (current resale USD$750), Air Jordan 1 Black Gold (current resale USD$950), Jordan 4 Eminem Encore (current resale USD$19,450) and the Jordan 1 Retro High Solefly Art Basel (current resale USD$974) have fuelled the fire that is sneaker reselling.
2019 is going to be no different for Jordan Brand – we have already seen some amazing releases in the first half of the year and can only expected to see more towards the later end of the year.
Not all of the best Jordans have resale value, nor do they need to, but it’s this hype that creates the opportunity for teenagers to become self made successful entrepreneurs from this booming aftermarket.
Below is a list of the 12 best releases for 2019 and their expected resale prices.
1. Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Mid OG
Release date: May 11th .2019
Retail price: USD$175
Resell price: USD$970 – USD$1,200
One of the most hyped releases of 2019 was the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Mid – released in May in limited numbers the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Mid was outfitted in a brown upper, white leather uppers and accents, reverse swoosh and hidden money pocket on the inside of the heel. A number of leaks via Instagram of the Mid silhouette and low silhouette (see below) had occurred late 2018 and very early 2019 – Nike all but confirmed the release in February 2019. Taking design cues from Travis’ prior Jordan collaborations the Air Jordan 1 Mid absolutely flew off shelves on release and has been steadily increasing in resale price over the last few weeks. If you were able to secure yourself a pair these will surely increase in price in the months to come!
2. Nike Air Jordan Retro 1 Mid: Yellow Toe
Release date: June 19th 2019
Retail price: USD$120
Resell price: USD$180 – USD$200
If you missed out on the super exclusive Air Jordan 1 – Yellow Not for Resale from last year, now is your chance to secure a slightly more accessible version!
Dressed in black and yellow the Air Jordan 1 Yellow toe has nubuck material and yellow/black leather panels across the upper of the shoe. A white mid sole and yellow undersole overlayed with a Yellow Jumpman on the tongue has this colourway absolutely drooling in style.
3. Air Jordan 1 – Retro High OG First Class
Follow us here on IG for the latest sneaker news
Release date: July 2019 (TBD)
Retail price: USD$160
Resell price: USD$200 – USD$250
Normally Jordan brand goes through the archives to find a small piece of Michael Jordan history to weave into their next silhouette or colourway – however in the case of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG First class Jordan has opted for a white/yellow overlay with a boarding pass style barcode on the heels.
The barcodes actually are a nod to Jordan’s career points, rebounds, assists and averages per game!
The white and yellow midsolde teamed up with the white detailed leather uppers has this silhouette screaming class.
Likely to be a more limited drop, keep an eye out in mid July for these to drop.
4. Air Jordan 1 Low x PSG – Black/ Grey
Release date: July 30th 2019 (TBD)
Retail price: USD$170 (TBD)
Resell price: USD$275 – USD$350
Witnessed on feet in June 2019, the Low Air Jordan 1 x PSG (Paris Saint Germain) features a black/gray colourway on the uppers, white midsole and subtle reflective graphics on the heels/ uppers. Both the Air Jordan 1 x PSG and the Air Jordan 6x PSG feature co-branded logos on the hell and a bright red ‘Paname’ tag stitched near the or along the heel itself.
PSG x Jordan collaborations don’t have a tendency to super high resale value unless you are able to get your hands on an exclusive Friends & Family version, which go in the thousands of dollars – however you can expect early pairs to go for 2x retail price if you can get your hands on a pair early.
5. Air Jordan 6 x PSG – Iron Grey/ Infrared
Release date: July 30th 2019 (TBD)
Retail price: USD$225 (TBD)
Resell price: USD$275 – USD$350
Also seen in further detail at the June 2019 fashion show, the Air Jordan 6 x PSG has a grey/black upper suede panels, hits of infrared on the tongue/heel and the same ‘Paname’ tag as the Air Jordan 1 Low x PSG stitched near the or along the heel itself. This silhouette also features a lace locking system dressed in infrared as well as some further detailing on the insoles – early photos have the words Ici Est Paris” (meaning: “This Is Paris”), on the insoles themselves. As with the Air Jordan 1 Low x PSG version don’t expect the resale to be close to any Off-White x Nike collaboration but you should still see 1.0 – 2.0 x retail price on resale.
6. Air Jordan 5 – Michigan
Release date: July 7th 2019
Retail price: USD$225
Resell price: USD$350 – USD$400
Jordan brand and Michigan colourways are no strange bedfellows- the Wolverines inspired colourways have been featured on Jordan 12s, Jordan 1 Mids, Jordan 3 Retros and already seen on a Jordan 5 Retro.
Previously slated for release in August this year with surprise news of an earlier July drop, the Air Jordan 5 Michigan references the super exclusive Friends & Family ‘Fab Five’ Air Jordan’s that were previewed in 2017. Maize (yellow) and navy hues are dressed on the upper with navy continuing onto the midsole with speckled yellow on the teeth. Depending on the stock levels for this colourway we could see the resale price be around the 1.5x retail price point, however if the release is limited to 50,000 or less we could see the resale price jump to 3x-4x the retail price.
7. Jordan 1 Retro High Satin Black Toe (Women’s)
Release date: August 31st 2019
Retail price: USD$160
Resell price: USD$350 – USD$600 (larger sizes)
A women’s excusive release is set to be dropped in late august 2019 for Jordan Brand – much like the Shattered Backboard Satin release the Jordan 1 Retro High Satin Black toe will be a mix of leather and satin giving it that extra luxurious feel. Paying homage to the Black Toe Jordan first debuted in 1985 this silhouette is made up of white leather and black uppers, satin red heels and collars and the standard white/red soles.
Retail of USD$160 follows the UNC Patent Women’s release from Feb this year – resale will be around the 1.5x – 2.5x level based on the women’s only release, however much like the UNC Patent version the guys will be chasing the larger women’s sizes so expect the womens US 10.5s and above to command a higher resale price.
8. Air Jordan 1 – Obsidian Blue/University Blue
Release date: August 17, 2019 (TBD)
Retail price: USD$160
Resell price: USD$300 – USD$400
Jordan brand often gives a nod to Michael Jordan’s days at the University of North Carolina – around august this year we are set to see a Jordan 1 Retro High OG version dressed in the UNC colourways.
Early 2019 we saw a women’s only UNC patent version – however for the men’s version we can expect a slightly more toned-down version with a sail blue, navy blue /white upper and a powder blue heel/ collar.
Getting yourself a pair and your bae, a pair of matching UNC Patents should be one of your top priorities this year. Stock levels will be fairly high but will still be enough to get a decent return on this colourway.
9. Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low
Release date: October 10th 2019 (TBA)
Retail price: USD$150
Resell price: USD$1,110 – USD$1,250
As mentioned above, the Travis Scott x Jordan collaboration has been teased in a number of silhouettes for release in 2019. One of the final version we should be seeing for release this year is the Low version of the super popular Jordan 1 x Travis Scott Mid.
As with the Mid version the Low silhouette has a reverse swoosh, dark neutral tones and red laces that add a pop of colour to the shoe. There is still no indication of a drop date as of yet, but when this one does release expect it to disappear very quickly.
10. Air Jordan 1 – Retro High OG Shattered Backboard 3.0
Release date: October 26th 2019
Retail price: USD$160
Resell price: USD$600 – USD$700
These shoes are a homage to Jordan’s exhibition game in Trieste, Italy – not only did Jordan put up a casual 30-points in the game but he performed a dunk so powerful it actually shattered the glass backboard. Since then Jordan brand has released a few colourways of the famous shoes he wore during that game and in 2019 we are set to see a third release.
The uppers are featured in black, starfish orange but with one massive twist. The leather will feature a crinkled/glossy finish and a solid cream outsole – not dissimilar in look to the 2018 Satin Finish Shattered Backboard 2.0 this release will be highly limited so expect the resale price to shatter expectations.
11. Air Jordan 6 x Travis Scott – Medium Olive/ Black Sail
Release date: July/October 2019 (TBD)
Retail price: USD$250
Resell price: USD$400 – USD$500
First witnessed on La Flames feet during his Super Bowl LIII performance, the Air Jordan 6 x Travis Scott collaboration could be the final shoe we see released between the two for 2019.
The olive upper colourways mixes beautifully with the white/black midsoles. Additionally as with the Air Jordan 1 OG Mid we see a stash pocket on the shoe, although this time stitched to the outer of the ankle.
Standard Cactus Jack branding is witnessed on the heel of the shoe – currently seen in both a red and black stitching, closer to release date we should see further details. This shoe wont be as popular as the Mid 1 OG or the Low silhouette of the 1 OG but should still have great resale as per most La Flame x Jordan collaborations.
There’s mixed news regarding this drop in the same way that the release date of the TS 1’s constantly changed, so expect a delay, early release, shock drop, or all of the above with these hyped Travis Scott 6’s.
12. Air Jordan Retro 11 Bred
Release date: December 14th 2019
Retail price: USD$220
Resell price: USD$280 – USD$320
Last year Jordan re-released the cherished Jordan 11 from our child hood – the shoe originally released in 1995 has been followed by several re-releases but in December this year we are set to see the retro return of the Jordan 11 Bred. With all black uppers, white + red midsoles and the original high cut patent leather from toe to heel the BRED version of the Air Jordan 11 will likely fly off shelves much like the 2018 Concord release.
Whilst this shoe wont likely be a limited run you can still expect resale to be 1.5x its retail price due to the beloved silhouette and colourway.
