Sneaker/Streetwear Market Recap Week of August 3rd
To give you a better idea of the sneaker resale market and its trends, we are debuting weekly recap articles.
Let us know what you think!
We’ll begin this weekly market recap by taking a look at some of the hottest kicks that dropped this week!
First up, the -high-japan-metallic-silver-release-and-resale-guide/">Jordan 1 Retro High CO Japan Neutral Grey (2020)
The Jordan 1 “Japan” released back in 2001 as a Japan-exclusive limited to 2,001 pairs.
For 2020, Jordan Brand will be bringing back the limited design, but this time with “Nike Air” branded tongues.
Dressed in a similar Neutral Grey, White, and Metallic Silver color scheme as the 2001 release.
This Air Jordan 1 features a Grey textile upper paired with Metallic Silver leather on the heel, Swooshes, and toe box.
“Nike Air” tongues atop a White midsole atop a Grey rubber outsole with CO.JP on the insoles completes the design.
This sneaker released on August 7th (only a couple of days ago) and has already had over 300 sales on StockX.
So far, with the retail of $170, the Jordan 1 CO Japan has achieved an average resale price of $299. If you were able to get their hands on a pair, you’d be in for probably $80+ profit. Not bad!
Next up, the Jordan 1 Retro High Satin Snake Chicago (W)
Jordan Brand added luxe materials to a classic silhouette with the release of the Jordan 1 Retro High Satin Snake Chicago (W).
This release combines Jumpman’s ongoing Satin 1 concept with the colorway that started it all.
This Jordan 1 consists of a white satin upper with red satin overlays and black faux snakeskin detailing. A white midsole, red outsole, and a traditional Jordan Wings graphic on the ankle complete the design.
Jordan Brand has constantly been experimenting with different materials and textures. That’s what keeps the brand so fresh and unique, with different twists and tweaks to OG colorways.
Synthetic snakeskin has been used on various Jordan sneakers in recent years. They’ve been a hit or miss for the most part but some releases have been very profitable.
Satin on the other hand, when it comes to women’s releases have been very popular. The Air Jordan 1 satin was a very limited Jordan release that generously used the silky material.
The Jordan 1 Retro Satin Snake Chicago obviously brings both of these aspects into one sneaker.
Despite this being a woman’s sneaker, the resell value proved to be a great profit. With over 4900 StockX sakes, the Jordan 1 has an average resale value of $322.
The final sneaker we’ll be covering is the Nike Zoom Freak 2 Black/White
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo has yet to prove himself within the NBA’s bubble in Orlando, FL as the 2019-20 season resumes on July 30th, the reigning MVP has already secured a title among sneaker enthusiasts for his Zoom Freak 2.
The sneaker model has been a hit among all basketball players as it is somewhat similar to the Paul George sneaker.
In other news, Steph Curry just reached a deal with Under Armour that he will now have his own brand within Under Armour.
This is like Michael Jordan’s Jordan Brand, under Nike.
Do I think Giannis Antetokounmpo could be a player like that? Absolutely. The guy is an athletic monster and seems to be a hit among NBA fans.
Basketball shoes, as we’ve said before, don’t usually resell and aren’t profitable because companies release them in huge numbers to have everybody wearing a pair.
It comes as no surprise that the sneaker has racked up only 1 sale with an average resale value of $141, not great for the $130 value.
Despite the lack of resell value, I think basketball sneakers are great for the sneaker game. It’s combining sneakers and basketball and bringing new people into the game all the time.
I think if a player like Lebron were to retire, perhaps his sneakers would begin reselling for more, similar to Jordan.
I absolutely have faith Giannis can be this player and can absolutely have a legacy similar to the Jordans, Lebrons, Kobes…
This week we saw the Palace X Spitfire Collab.
To prepare for colder weather of fall, Palace has put together an expansive array of sweatshirts and hoodies that are sure to be sought after.
As per usual, leading the set are playful Tri-Ferg graphic styles which include a Spitfire collaboration, gold jewelry-focused Hatton Hoodie, a macabre Tri-Crusher Hoodie.
Another notable collaboration comes in the form of hoodies marked with the Lips print by John and Molly, along with the Warm Mit Tech Polartec Hoodies and Vests.
We will be taking a look at 3 items from the collection and showing the retail, number of sales, and the average resale value.
Palace Spitfire P-Fire T-Shirt Pink
Retail: $48
Number of sales: 1
Average Resale Price: $98
Palace Spitfire Live To Bun Hood Blue
Retail: $168
Number of sales: 7
Average Resale Price: $212
Palace Spitfire Live To Bun Mesh 5-Panel Black
Retail: $48
Number of sales: 1
Average Resale Price: $89
All in all the collection didn’t have a ton of reselling. The hoodies did really well but had few sales.
Palace is interesting because the come out with items that normally would resell, but they bring out new items so quickly it’s tough for items to gain traction in the market.
If you are a reseller, I wouldn’t recommend trying to resell Palace. You’ll have a lot of slow days with tiny profits.
