The Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar & Samba is a very hyped release that’s expected to do better than the last time they teamed up to unveil the updated “Lxcon” model.
Without further-adieu, let’s get right to it!
Skip to conclusion for all important information in one place.
Adidas Originals/Superstar & Samba
When you think of a typical sneaker, the Adidas superstar comes to mind for most. That’s because it is perhaps the most iconic sneaker of all time.
In 1969, they were inspired by the pro models which were basketball sneakers. Trust me however, you wouldn’t want to play basketball in these.
After over a decade of success, hype for the superstar started to decline until a certain hip hop group came to the rescue. Run DMC came up with an album called “My Adidas” that pretty much reinvigorated popularity for the superstar.
The group and Adidas later on made an official collaboration which was the first between a sports-wear company and hip hop group in history.
Frequent renditions and popular collaborations such as with Pharrell Williams, continue the Superstar’s reign as one of the most recognizable sneakers to date.
The Adidas Samba is another classic sneaker that is not just the company’s longest running sneaker but also their best-selling one.
It was released to the public in 1950 as a performance wear sneaker. Mainly being used to assist footballers in cold temperatures and slippery grounds.
It’s still pretty much used for indoor football while other original Adidas sneakers have moved onto the fashion realm.
Jonah Hill x Adidas
In October 2018, Jonah hill posted a selfie in the bathroom, waiting for his bath to fill up while announcing the updated Adidas sneaker.
The next day he also posted a picture wearing the torn down sneakers with the caption. “Something fun from me and Adidas”?
Obviously that’s what started the hype for the sneaker as fans thought there was an official collaboration coming up. That however, was not the case.
Adidas figured that in 2019, celebrities designing the sneaker wasn’t all that important. They could just wear the sneaker, appear in a few adverts and that would have the same effect as a “celebrity designed sneaker”.
As a result, Jonah Hill didn’t design the Adidas Lxcon but merely advertised it. The sneaker was unveiled during the time he started talking about a collaboration on podcasts and platforms such as Complex.
The end result doesn’t seem to be much of a success. You can still find the sneaker on the Adidas website or on shelves in certain stores. It might be due to a massive restock or just lack of hype.
The Adidas Lxcon was a pretty unpopular sneaker to begin with. Couple that with Jonah Hill not actually designing the sneaker and you’ve got a pretty dull over-all product.
I believe the Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar & Samba release will do lot better. To get a better estimate of how it might do on the resale market, let’s check out some similar examples.
Adidas Superstar Pharrell Human Race
Retail Price: $140
Peak Resale: $280
Release Date: 07/03/2020
Colorway: Cloud White/Bold Gold-Light Purple
This is Adidas and Pharrell William’s latest collaboration in classic celeb-sportswear fashion. We got our first glimpse of the sneaker during the “Change is a Team Sport” campaign. Pharrell was seen wearing the pair and was photographed multiple times.
The sneaker features a white leather upper with a gold stripe on the lateral sides. A Black heel, white mid-sole and white out-sole finishes off the design.
Since these released literally as I write this, there haven’t been many sales on the resale market. There has been 1 sale today on StockX with a price tag of $280. That’s a pretty good profit margin of $140.
Also, considering that the highest bids are now around the $200 mark, this seems to be a profitable sneaker.
Adidas Samba Oyster Holding Red
Retail Price: $130
Peak Resell: $175
Release Date: 05/31/2019
Colorway: Red/Cloud White-Gold Metallic
This sneaker features a red leather upper with gold hits throughout including “Samba” branding on the sides. A tan mid-sole and out-sole finishes off the design.
The resale isn’t very good as after release date as everyone pretty much gets access to retail prices. That’s the downside of mass production for re-sellers.
Average resale price on StockX is $74 which isn’t even close to getting your money back. At peak resale however, profits are around $45 before tax and service fees which is rare.
Adidas Samba Jason Dill
Retail Price: $80
Peak Resell: $125
Release Date: 03/14/2020
Colorway: Supplier Color/Core Black-Gold Metallic
This collaboration with skater Jason Dill was a hyped one within the skating niche. However, they didn’t do crazy well on the resale market either.
The trade range on StockX currently is $79-$111 with the average price being $91. That’s an average gross profit of $11 and peak profit of $45. Basically, not really worth the cop.
Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar & Samba
Retail Price: (Superstar) $140
(Samba) $110
Estimated Resell: (Superstar) $150
(Samba) $140
Release Date: 07/11/2020
Colorways: Cloud White/Deep Green/Dark Burgundy
This highly anticipated release is what the actor/director’s fans have been craving for since 2018. The release of the updated lxcon wasn’t appealing enough to Jonah Hill Fans. Nor was he unpopular silhouette.
The Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar & Samba however, shows promise of being a hit. The release includes a total of 3 sneakers. 1 Adidas superstar for $140 in cloud white and 2 Samba sneakers for $110 in Dark Burgundy and Deep Green.
The Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar features a pretty clean look with subtle exciting touches. It has an almost all-white leather upper with cream overlay. It also has various embroidery and stitching, particularly the “JH” on the heel. A cream sole finishes off the design.
The Samba sneakers both feature leather uppers with sued overlay. “Samba” stitched on the lateral sides of each sneaker along with dark leather stripes. There’s also a lion image/graphic on the insole while a rubber out-sole completes the design.

Resale Value
To come to a conclusion on what the resale would be, after judging by the sneakers discusses above, I don’t believe profits would be anything crazy.
The Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar & Samba seem like great sneakers, especially for fans. However, after witnessing the bids on StockX, profits don’t seem all that high.
To get your money back, you’ll need to sell the Jonah Hill Adidas Superstar for at least $167 after a standard US tax rate and service fee. Thus by using my estimated resell value, it doesn’t seem to be profitable. If you can sell on eBay however, small profits are likely.
As for the Jonah Hill Adidas Samba, you’ll need to sell for at least $130. I suppose you could earn some lunch money in profits however, don’t expect too much.
