Nike Air Force 1| The OG Basketball Shoe

The Air Force 1 is a massive hit among not just Nike fans but I assume most sneaker-heads including me. Not only are they loved by fans, the Air Force 1 is also a very important sneaker for Nike.

Before the Air Force 1, Nike was mostly a running shoe company and had been for 10s of years. They decided to make a huge gamble by entering the basketball game and they did so with the Air Force 1.

The sneaker first released in 1982 and despite being a hit among fans, they were discontinued in 1984. After being in popular demand later on, the Air Force 1 was reintroduced in 1986.

It was Nike’s first sneaker that was specifically made for basketball, a sport they would later on dominate with the introduction of the Air Jordan. A sneaker that was inspired by the Air Force 1.

Bruce Kilgore was the mastermind behind this sneaker and took inspiration from Nike’s hiking boot when coming up with the design.

The women’s Air Force 1 was then first released in 2001 and has had multiple colorways and renditions, with the latest one being the Air Force 1 Tie Dye Black.

Nike Tie-Dye| A Rising Fan favorite

The Tie Dye term was introduced into the 1960s and refers to a few ancient dyeing techniques which include a number of actions such as twisting, crumpling, and folding and then binding it together. It’s usually represented by an array of different bold colors and can be quite trippy to look at.

Nike has been implementing many of these colorways in different fashion on many of their products. These vibrant colors have been used on T-Shirts, socks, and most importantly on sneakers which are very well received by fans.

The Women’s Air Jordan 1 Tie Dye for example was a big hit not just among women but also men. In fact, the larger sizes sold much better on both the primary and resale markets.

To estimate the resale value of the Nike Air Force 1 Low Black Tie Dye, let’s head on over to StockX.

Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye Chicago

Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye Chicago StockX
From StockX

Retail Price: $110

Peak Resell: $330

Release Date: 07/30/2019

Colorway: Multi Color/White

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye Chicago comes in an upper that rocks all the colors of the rainbow. The upper consists of different vibrant colors while the tongue displays the flag of Chicago. A crisp white mid-sole and heel and an ice blue out-sole completes the design.

On StockX, the average selling price is $120 which means you won’t be making much money by re-selling these today. Especially on StockX with all those fees! At peak resale however, gross profits have been as high as $220 per pair.

I believe the Nike Air Force 1 Low Black Tie Die will have better resale but not by a lot.

Nike Air Max 97 Golf Tie Dye

Nike Air Max 97 Golf Tie Dye StockX
From StockX

Retail Price: $190

Peak Resell: $300

Release Date: August/2020

Colorway: SUMMIT WHITE/LEMON VENOM-INDIGO FOG-DEEP ROYAL BLUE

The Nike Air Max 97 Golf Tie Dye features a white upper with multi colored hippie styled overlay in wavy patterns. There’s also a small black ‘Swoosh’ on the lateral sides while a white mid-sole with an exposed air unit, green interior, and a rugged out-sole with “LOVE” written on it completes the design.

On StockX, they’ve been consistently selling for small profits. The average selling price is $210 which is an average gross profit of $20. At peak resale prices, gross profits are as high as $110 per pair.

That’s not very lucrative resale however, I do expect the Nike Air Force 1 Low Black Tie Dye to have better profit margins.

Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye Black

Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye Black StockX
From StockX

Retail Price: $110

Peak Resell: $160

Release date: 07/18/2019

Colorway: Black/Multi color

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Tie Dye black features primarily a black color particularly on the heel, toe box, and sides. However, a tie dye color pattern with dominating yellow hues also covers vast parts of the upper. To be honest, it’s really not the best looking colorway.

On StockX, the average selling price is $104 which doesn’t even break even for anyone re-selling these. Even at peak resale prices, gross profits are pretty much just lunch money.

The unpopular color tones used may be to blame for poor resale in my opinion. The Nike Air Force 1 Low Black Tie Dye may have much better resale value.

Colorway: WHITE/GREEN STRIKE-WASHED CORAL-BLACK

Nike is set to release yet another summer-friendly sneaker with vibrant contrasting color tones over a tumbled leather upper. The Nike Air Force 1 Low Black Tie Dye releases in women’s exclusive sizing on September the 4th.

A light, yet striking green ‘swoosh’ and heel tab stick out right away while a subtle peach colored mudguard provides a feminine touch. A white be-speckled toe box and black laces provide some contrast while the rest of the upper is covered in black, red, and orange splotches.

Branding on the tongue and heel can also be found while a clean white mid-sole and a black out-sole finishes off the design.

Resale Value

Although Tie Dye Air Force 1s haven’t been too profitable in the past, I believe because of the appealing color of this shoe, there may be some money to be made here.

On StockX, you’ll need to sell them for at least $140 after applying a standard US tax and service fee. Thus buying my estimated resell, you can expect lunch money of around $10. The larger sizes will be most profitable.

On websites such as eBay, you can earn profits of up to $30 per pair.

Where to Buy

You can buy this Air Force 1 Tie Dye at select retailers and Nike SNKRS. Although this is a women’s exclusive, a lot of men will also want to get their hands on them but don’t worry. An extended size run is available so you’ll only need to cop the larger sizes.
