With that out of the way, let me walk you through the highly revered collaborations between Nike and Rei Kawakubo’s CdG’s.

Nike x COMME des GARÇONS’

Start by Japanese artist and designer Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garcons has steamrolled Japanese sneaker markets whenever they release a new pair. Their collaborations with Nike especially are highly anticipated in Japan, ever since their first team-up with Nike back in 1999.

Comme des Garcons’ first collaboration, however, was not led by Rei and instead by her protégé, Junya Watanabe. Together with Nike, they came up with the COMME des GARCONS Nike Zoom Haven in 1999.

Although almost identical to the normal Nike Zoom Haven (apart from the extra red accents on the midsoles). These sneakers paved the way for groundbreaking new collaborations between the two companies.

These sneakers dropped back in 2018 and were highly anticipated. Featuring a clean black and white leather upper and an irregular white ‘Swoosh’, these sneakers are typical to the Comme des Garcons’ style of minimalistic design.

On StockX, the average selling price is around $420. That’s an average gross profit of $255 while they’ve even been sold for as high as $835. I believe the Comme des Garcons’ Nike Air Force 1 Mid will have similar resale value.

Revealed earlier this year during Comme des Garcons’ Fall/Winter runway show, these sneakers finally have a release date alongside official images.

The relatively high retail price for both sneakers can be attributed to the premium quality leather used on the uppers. Featuring a minimalistic design, it’s easy to see that Rei Kawakubo’s design cues have made their way into the final look of this sneaker.

Both sneakers feature a “deconstructed” and rather a roughed-up look. That’s likely due to the floating effects of the leather on the ‘Swoosh’, collar, tongue, and rear. Comme des Garcon’s monikers are found on the tongues while Nike branding is featured on the heels.

Since this is a popular collaboration, I believe these sneakers will also sell out pretty quickly.

Using my estimated resell value of $350, expect gross profits of around $80 a pair. The white or black colorway should be equally profitable. Profits can be up to $100 if you sell on websites such as eBay that offer service fee waivers.
