Today the sneaker we will be taking a look at is the Air Jordan 1 High OG Japan “Metallic Silver”
**Please skip to the conclusion for the need-to-know about the release**
The Jordan 1 “Japan” released back in 2001 as a Japan-exclusive limited to 2,001 pairs.
For 2020, Jordan Brand will be bringing back the limited design, but this time with “Nike Air” branded tongues.
Dressed in a similar Neutral Grey, White, and Metallic Silver color scheme as the 2001 release.
This Air Jordan 1 features a Grey textile upper paired with Metallic Silver leather on the heel, Swooshes, and toe box.
“Nike Air” tongues atop a White midsole atop a Grey rubber outsole with CO.JP on the insoles completes the design.
In order to get a better feel for the resell market value and the demand on this sneaker, we will be discussing four other Jordan 1 Japan models!
First up, the Air Jordan 1 Retro Japan Grey (2001).
This sneaker is the main inspiration for this 2020 release. With many of the colors being the same, this will give us a huge insight into what we can expect after release!
Coming in neutral grey and metallic silver, this was the first new colorway of the AJ 1 since its debut run from ’85-86. The first “2001 Addition,” they were made to commemorate the new century.
A Japan-exclusive, they were limited to 2,001 pairs, individually numbered on the inside tongue tag. Kicking things up a notch was the packaging. They came in a silver suitcase, a predecessor to the Air Jordan 17.
The main difference between the two cases is that the Air Jordan 1 Retro came with a set of keys to open to the case while the AJ 17 cases just had notches you flipped open. Their release date was January 1st, 2001 and the majority of pairs made consisted of small sizes, making the larger sizes harder to obtain and more sought after.
With the exclusivity that comes with this prestigious pair, it’s no surprise that the average resale price is currently $575 with only 6 sales.
The 2020 pair will release with more stock, which some may believe this lowers the resale price. However there are way more people into sneaker reselling than there were in 2001, so maybe the ratio works out!
The Air Jordan 1 Retro in white, metallic silver and midnight navy received two releases in 2001.
They were the third Japan-exclusive “2001 Addition” to drop. Limited to 3,000 pairs, each individually numbered on the inside tongue tag, this pair sports a white tumbled leather and navy blue suede upper.
Metallic silver covers the “Swoosh” on the sides as well as the “Wings” logo on the ankle.
Like all other Air Jordan 1 Retro “2001 Additions,” these pairs come in the classic Jordan “Face” box along with a silver “Jumpman” keychain and retro card.
Despite the fact that this pair and all the other pairs we will be discussing have released in 2001 – they still provide insight as to what we will see after the release.
In terms of resale – we see similar numbers the last pair. With only 7 sales on StockX, there is an average resale price of $427 – hugely profitable with the retail of $100!
Next up, the Jordan 1 Retro Japan Black/ Jordan 1 Retro Japan White (2001).
These two shoes are like yin and yang. With one being all white and the other all black, the complete the 2001 Japan Jordan collection.
As you can probably see, 2001 was a huge year for the Jordan 1 and hopefully, 2020 will be too!
There’s not too much background info on these sneakers as they just followed the pattern in 2001.
In terms of resale- we do see some slightly different numbers between both pairs.
The all-black pair currently has 8 sales with an average resale price of $378.
The white pair currently has 10 sales with an average resale price of $487.
When deciding the resale price of the Jordan 1 High OG Japan “Metallic Silver” I had to analyze all of these sneakers and predict 19 years in the future!
Obviously 2020 is much different than in 2001 in terms of the sneaker game. There are millions of people involved in the game.
All of these sneakers that released in 2001 were limited and sought after, hence their low sales and extremely high profits.
The fact that these sneakers are all Japan adds to the exclusivity and adds to the hype.
With all of these sneakers being extremely profitable, I came to these numbers:
CONCLUSION:
Release Date: July 25th
Retail Price: $170
Average Resale Value: $300 – $450 (Depending on size)
Retailers: Nike
