Air Jordan 1| Background & Hype

Air Jordan 1 High OG Chicago History

The Air Jordan 1 is probably Nike’s most popular basketball sneaker ever. Inspired by the OG of the basketball game, the Air Force 1 and others, these kicks took the basketball sneaker world by storm.

It all started with a young Michael Jordan during his rise to fame as a rookie. He was approached by Nike that promised to build a brand around him but surprisingly, he declined.

Believe it or not, he preferred the Converse Chuck Taylor rather than Nike sneakers. Claiming that “the soles were too thick” as it didn’t let him feel the court beneath him.

He reconsidered when Peter Moor decided to design a sneaker exclusively for him. Thus the Air Jordan 1 was born in 1985. They retailed for $65 and sold out instantly.

To this day, the Air Jordan sneakers are being sold out instantly with some arguing that popularity has actually risen. The recent Netflix Documentary, ‘The Last Dance’ may have something to do with that.

The documentary introduced Michael Jordan to a whole new generation and reignited the sneaker’s popularity. Since the Air Jordan 1 High OG Satin Snake is really similar to the ‘Chicago’ colorway, I believe they’ll sell out really fast as well.

Air Jordan 1 Snake Skin & Satin

Jordan Brand has constantly been experimenting with different materials and textures. That’s what keeps the brand so fresh and unique, with different twists and tweaks to OG colorways.

Synthetic snake skin has been used on various Jordan sneakers in recent years. They’ve been a hit or miss for the most part but some releases have been very profitable.

Satin on the other hand, when it comes to women’s releases have been very popular. The Air Jordan 1 satin was a very limited Jordan release that generously used the silky material.

The Satin black and blue colorway was also released a few years ago in limited quantities. They sold out immediately and are now being re-sold for very high prices.

To go into more detail, let’s head on over to StockX. By checking out their resale prices, we can get a good idea of what to expect from the Air Jordan 1 High OG Satin Snake.

This sneaker features a white leather upper and laces but the most noticeable part is the snakeskin. It embellishes the heel, ‘Swoosh’ and, around the collar. A white ‘Air Jordan’ branding, a striking white mid-sole and a matching out-sole finishes off the design.

On StockX, resale prices are steadily rising but overall, it’s nothing too crazy. The average selling price is just shy of $180 which is an average gross profit of $35. At peak resale however, they’ve been sold for profits as high as $500.

As usual, the most profitable sizes are the larger sizes, mostly over size 10.

Retail Price: $160

Peak Resale: $1,230

Release Date: 08/17/2019

Colorway: Black/White-University Red

Jordan brand has applied satin to various Air Jordan sneakers such as this one. The Air Jordan 1 High Satin Black Toe came in very limited quantities and was highly anticipated.

The color blocking used is very similar to the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Satin Snake Chicago. Thus I believe resale of the satin snakeskin could but similar but not quite as high.

This sneaker feels luxurious with its leather/satin construction in the typical black toe color blocking. A metal wings logo on the heel, a crisp white mid-sole and red out-sole finishes off the design.

Resale for these are absolutely insane, as expected. They’ve been sold for as high as $1,200 but are now selling for around $670 on StockX. That means on average, each pair would earn you over $500 per pair in gross profits!

Estimated Resell

These seem to be highly anticipated and I believe they’ll sell out fast. Women’s Air Jordans are on the rise and these will likely reflect that rising popularity. Couple that with a classic OG colorway and you have a sneaker that’s definitely worth copping for resale.

To get your money back on StockX after a standard US tax rate and service fee. You’ll need to sell them for at least $202 on StockX. By using my estimated resell value, you’re looking at high profits of around $150 per pair!

If you sell on websites such as eBay, profits could be even higher.

How to Cop

I believe the Air Jordan 1 High OG Satin Snake will likely be a massive hit so don’t sleep on them! You can buy them on August 6th at Nike.com and select retails for $170 (Adult).

For resale, you can buy them today at reseller websites such as StockX. Since this is a women’s Air Jordan, I recommend going for the larger sizes. Sizes 10 and above will likely be the most profitable.
