Jordan 1 Pine Green – Release Guide
Today at SFS we’ll be talking about a sneaker we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
As always, stick around to see why we’re the best place to get info on newly releasing shoes and how to resell them.
While there is some confusion on official names, we are simply giving it the moniker “Pine Green Jordan 1”. Others are giving it nicknames like the Gucci, Green/Reds, or Pine Green 2.0s.
Whether you’re looking to pile on to your Jordan 1 collection or get your hands on your first pair, this upcoming drop is a quintessential addition for anyone–particularly if you’re interested in the growing multi billion dollar sneaker pie.
Mark your calendars for February 29th as that is the official release day, and expect them to hit and select retailers for $170 USD.
If you’re not interested in a history of the sneaker or details, feel free to skip to the end of the post to get more of the valuable release info and site list.
A Detailed Look
As I alluded to earlier, this is the second go-around of the Pine Green color way on a Jordan 1 in recent years. The main difference between the two is the color blocking. The 2018 Pine Green version features a “Bred Toe” style of color blocking, where as this 2.0 boasts the classic “Bred/Royal” look.
The past week has been a frenzy for Air Jordan 1 lovers as our friends in Beaverton, Oregon welcomed back the silhouette’s original shape from 1985 through its extremely limited “Varsity Red” makeover, as well as its “New Beginnings” offering alongside the Nike Air Ship.
Building off of the excitement collected from its All-Star Week releases, the Retro High OG version is closing out the second month of the year with a “Pine Green” iteration scheduled to drop on Leap Year Day.
Let’s dig in to why these are a pair of sneakers to look forward to.
For the upper, Boston Celtic greenery steals the show by honing in on its heels, ankle collars, Swooshes, and toe boxes, and differentiates itself from its “DMP” Pack and “Green Toe” predecessors by leaving the rest of its paneling to a singular black hue reminiscent of “Bred” style color-blocking. Accented decor arrives by way of a double stacked wings logo that is tonally blacked out, followed by a tiny hint of “Gym Red” located on the tongue branding. An ivory midsole is atop the Pine Green outsole.
What makes this a special Jordan 1 is the subtle combination of materials and finishes. The black leather has a matte look while the green accents have the semi gloss finish for contrast.
Resale History
The public’s fascination and consumption of the Air Jordan 1 has been nothing short of unbelievable. It’s been a wild ride to watch. I remember a time where Jordan 3s, 4s, 5s among others being more sought after than 1s.
With all this being said, this shoe could be a decent one to flip if you’re looking to make a few bucks. Being that it’s not a tier zero sneaker in exclusivity means there will be a good amount of pairs, but for $160 it’s hard to imagine it will resell under retail. Jordan 1s tend to keep their value and rise over time so this could potentially be a smart investment.
We’re in the presence of a sneaker moment. I don’t know if anyone would have imagined seeing this many Jordan 1s being pumped into the market. It’s gotten to the point that a few edgy shoetubers have put out videos with titles like “ANOTHER JORDAN 1?!” or “JORDAN 1S ARE DEAD!!” We may be in a bubble but I believe that this production can still be sustainable.
Something our pockets can all appreciate, and a surprise to me, is that the Jordan 1 has stayed at the same price point for years now – $160. Every “general release” AJ 1 has taken this price point. Even super hyped releases and sneaker of the year candidates like Off-White 1s have been $160.
Of course we see Travis Scott 1s jump to $175 and Union LA 1s shoot to $190 retail but that’s still a price we’re willing to pay–especially given that the resale price for both of these shoes are now well over $1000.
I have to wonder if Jordan Brand will stick with this? Or when will we reach tipping point?
As for hard resale numbers, if this release is anything like the previous Pine Green, we can expect the market to look something like this:
Already we’ve seen early pairs floating well over retail and we should expect this trend to continue.
