Nike’s Year of The Ox

Nike Air Jordan Chinese New Year 2021 Collection
Sneaker News

The Chinese New Year or “Lunar New Year” is a huge celebration that occurs within Chinese communities everywhere. This occasion brings families and friends together as they enjoy food, festivals, and parties.

It starts with the new moon which according to western Calenders, starts around January 21st and ends at around February 20th. The Chinese New Year is perhaps the most important celebration in Chinese culture and Nike often celebrates with them.

Every year for a few years now, Nike releases various sneakers including Jordan shoes which are inspired by Chinese culture. With vibrant red color tones and intricate embroidery, CNY sneakers are usually very popular.

Jordan Brand in the past has dropped some heat with very hyped sneakers that are in demand even today. This year, Jordan Brand is set to release even more sneakers that are already evidently very highly anticipated.

To estimate the resale value of the Air Jordan 5 Low Chinese New Year, let’s head over to StockX.

Air Jordan 1 Low Chinese New Year (2016)

Air Jordan 1 Low Chinese New Year 2016

Retail Price: $200

Peak Resell: $540

Release Date: 01/23/2016

This Air Jordan 5 Low dropped during the 2016 Chinese New Year celebrations in a black leather upper. The upper is further contrasted by red eye stays while the rear and tongue feature a multi-colored pattern. A black midsole and translucent blue outsole complete the look.

The average selling price on StockX is a decent $340 which is an average gross profit of $140 per pair. Had you sold them at peak resale prices, gross profits would have even been as high as $340.

Air Jordan 5 Low “Chinese New Year”| Closer Look

Retail Price: $215

Estimated Resell: $240

Release Date: January/23/2021

This Air Jordan 1 Low features a sail leather upper with wear-away detailing.

After the subtle Sail upper wears off, it gives way to an explosion of colors including Chile Red, Opti Yellow, and Pearl White. Banner logos are featured on each of the heels and behind the tongues while “Action” appears on the medial perforated side panels.

A Sail midsole with red detailing and a similar outsole with a semi-visible Jump-Man finishes off the design.

Estimated Resell Value

I believe these sneakers will sell out fast, however, don’t expect profits too high. The mediocre resale value will likely be due to the unappealing colorway in contrast to the 2016 versions which feature a more solid colorway overall.

Using my estimated resell value, expect profits of around $25 or more. If you want to hold them, they may gain value over time leading to higher profits.
