The Looks and Inspiration
College-themed sneakers have always captivated the eyes of not only their students but many sneakerheads. Oftentimes, the shoe first releases as player exclusives, but then get a general release later.
In the past, college-themed pairs have sold out immediately because they’re highly popular and command large resale value. As recently as this year, the former player exclusive Air Jordan 3 “UNC” released to the public, receiving mass appeal among many.
Released in the past as a player exclusive, this Oregon themed Air Jordan 5 will release to the general public without the school’s logo. The upper of this sneaker consists of green nubuck, contrasted by a black tongue and grey mid paneling. The school’s signature yellow is featured on the tongue and portions of the midsole. Contrasting the Oregon colors, the midsole is expected to be black, all lying atop an icy blue outsole. Like all Air Jordan 5 models, this sneaker will feature a lace toggle and a Jordan Brand label on the heel.
Take a look at the pair below, and see if they’re something you’d like to have on feet.
The College Try
As aforementioned, it’s no secret that Jordan Brand has been a huge partner to universities across America. You could argue it’s part of the decision making process for perspective students and what sportswear company makes their uniforms and footwear.
One sneaker I touched on earlier is the UNC Jordan 3. This AJ3 that released in March of this year is currently fetching for almost $400 on the secondary market – almost the highest it’s ever been at. This may be a selling model to keep in mind. 6 months down you road you could see a great return on the Oregons like we did with the UNC’s.
Another 5 with a college color way is this Michigan iteration. This model was also at the $225 price point and now reselling in the high $200 tier.
Lastly, on the performance side of sneakers. We were graced with an entire collegiate pack of Jordan 31’s back in 2017. We saw schools the likes of Michigan, UNC, Georgetown, Marquette, and California featured.
Conclusion and Resale Anticipation
Whether you’re labeling it as the Oregon, Elevate, or Apple Green, we can’t deny the awesomeness of this shoe.
One thing I hate is the price tag on these. This is about the highest you’ll ever see a general release Jordan go. I would gauge the resale price based on how easy it is to get them, no surprise here. Watch the price around release day and see if they’re worth a pickup. Right now prices are soaring! With the average at this moment in time being $444 and the most recent sales being in the $350 ballpark, that’s a fantastic profit.
I’ll also give the same advice I give to everyone: don’t panic and dump your pairs if you start to see a little bit of a decline. And absolutely never let them go for less than retail. You may not even have to wait long before they’re back on the up and up. We’ve seen this with the Michigan 5’s, there was a slump but now they’re doing well.
