Air Jordan 8|History

The Air Jordan 8 has a special history like no other. It was a time when Jordan brand had so much recognition that they could have been a separate entity altogether. Although the previous Jordans had done most the work, Air Jordan 8 officially established Jordan brand’s own identity.

Tinker Hatfield was once again the mind behind this Jordan sneaker. Not only did he create it but Hatfield wanted the Air Jordan 8 to have its own identity. What that meant was, Tinker wanted the sneaker to go without the ‘Nike’ logo.

That obviously didn’t sit well with most the people however, after a lot of convincing, it worked. The Air Jordan 8 was the first Jordan sneaker to forgo the Nike logo. If you look at the original model, you’ll notice that as well.

The sneaker had a lot of hype behind it, especially because of all the crazy colorways. The design was also great and it had a poly-carbonate torsion plate. It did however have a problem.

The sneakers were perhaps the least comfortable out of any Air Jordans. The straps across the shoes (or Bunny Ears) made it too tight on the sides, especially for people with wider feet.

On the other hand, it did have the modern Air Unit as well as huarache inner sleeves and anti-inversion cross straps.

The sneakers released in 1993 in 3 colorways for $125. They would only return a decade later in 2003, priced at $135. Along with those came 2 new low-top variants as well which for sold for $110.

Although in recent years, we haven’t seen a lot of Air Jordan 8 releases, they still sell really well. Resale is often a miss but that too is sky high at times.

Colorway: White/Blue-Metallic Gold-Varsity Red

Drake’s Air Jordan 8 OVO white from the pack sold out super-fast and was very hard to get your hands on. The sneaker features a typical Air Jordan 8 silhouette with a crisp white leather upper accented by gold and varsity red hits. Particularly on the forefoot and the owl logos.

A golden interior with an OVO owl logo and a white sole finishes off the design. Although the colorway is striking and worth copping on its own, being a drake collaboration made it all the more exciting.

On StockX, the average selling price is $300 which is a gross profit of $75. Had you sold these at peak resale, gross profits would have been as high as $725.

The Air Jordan 8 Mushroom, although looks similar with its summer-time vibe color tones. Is no-where near as anticipated as a drake collaboration. Let’s move on to a more similar sneaker.

Estimated Resell

The Air Jordan 8, most would say is a really good looking sneaker. However, I don’t see it going for crazy high resale values anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t money to be made here.

If you sell on StockX, to get your money back you’ll need to sell for at least $225. Thus by using my estimated resell value, expect profits of around $25.

You could also sell on eBay for higher profit margins of at least $50 since they’ve waved off the service fee for items over $100.
