Air Jordan Zoom 92| History
The Air Jordan Zoom 98 brings fans a fusion of classic Air Jordan style choices and innovation. The style of the sneaker is inspired by the 1992 era which saw releases such as Nike Air Jordan VII, Air Max 180, and the Air Force 5.
The aesthetics as well as the functionality have both been borrowed from these sneakers. While improving upon each of them to fit the modern era, Jordan Brand kept it as true as possible to that 90’s vibe.
The split upper is inspired by the Air Jordan 7, providing more transparency and depth. Another inspiration from the Air Jordan 7 is the “9” badge found on the heel.
Furthermore, the exposed forefoot Zoom Air Bag is inspired by the Air Force 5 and Air Max 180. Adding to that similar aesthetic is the myriad of textures included on the sneaker.
“When you think back to that energy out of Barcelona in ’92, people all over the world were able to watch the dream, and the footwear gave them a piece of it,”-Gentry Humphrey (VP of Jordan Brand).
Union LA x Air Jordan
Chris Gibbs, the owner of LA Union has a peculiar inspiration behind a lot of his designs. Gibbs has an unconventional love for weathered and vintage items. He also goes out of his way to repair some of these items that in many cases are sneakers.
Although Gibbs’ favorite Jordan was the AJ III, the first collaboration went along with the Air Jordan 1. That was done for various reasons, most importantly for the sentimental value of the AJ1. Gibbs claimed that the AJ1 was a timeless sneaker that will never go out of style.
After multiple attempts at creating something as true to the OG 1985 Jordan 1 as possible, they finally succeeded. The end product was a carefully distressed version of the 1985 Air Jordan 1.
The collaboration was an instant success with sneakers being sold out instantly. Today they’re worth a lot of money on the resale market.
