The Nike Air Max/More Than Just a Shoe

For frequent readers of my articles, you’re probably aware of the special history of the Air Max. For newcomers however, let me briefly walk you through it.
Tinker Hatfield was the mastermind behind the Nike Air Max. He was also responsible for sneakers such as the Air Jordan 1 and is considered a legend when it comes to sneaker designer.
He was merely a corporate architect for Nike. However, after being inspired by other Nike sneakers, he decided to design one of his own.
The Nike Air Max had an exposed Air unit which is one of the most ambitious design changes in any sneaker. He was told it was a bad idea but he followed his gut and created one of the most iconic sneakers ever.
Today there are countless colorways and models of the Nike Air Max. It has since conception, transcended sports, becoming a cultural icon.
Reaching For the Stars
Nike has various times printed their classic purple/blue galaxy theme on top of sneakers. The Galaxy Foamposite one is one that comes to mind which was very popular when it dropped back in 2012.
The sneaker was created for the 2012 NBA all-star game and sold really well. The resale however for the original Nike Foamposite One Galaxy is incredible. They’re sold for as high as $1,600 on StockX. The rendition in 2018 is also really lucrative with good profits.
The Nike Foamposite however, is very different than the 3 silhouettes that are releasing with the Nike Air Max Supernova 2020 Pack.
I bring the Foamposite up because every time a Galaxy theme comes up. You just can’t not talk about the Foamposite one, it is perhaps the most flawlessly executed Galaxy theme on any silhouette in my opinion.
There have also been many other galaxy themed Nike sneakers that have been a hit or miss. We’ll be going through some of them shortly to see how they’re doing on the resale market.
Nike Air Max Supernova 2020 Pack
Retail Price: TBC
Estimated Resell: Nike Air Max 90 Supernova: $165
Nike Air Max Plus Supernova: $200 +
Nike Air Max 270 React Supernova: $150
Release Date: 06/20/2020
The Nike Air Max Supernova 2020 Pack includes 3 famous silhouettes. Particularly, the Air Max 90 Supernova, Air Max Plus Supernova and lastly, Air Max 270 react Supernova.
Although all three of the pack look pretty fire, I believe the Air Max 90 stands out the most. It features a purple galaxy upper including the tongue, toe box and upper.
A black speckled mid-sole around the air unit resemble stars in the night’s sky and a silver swoosh embellishes the design. A hang-tag that says “SN 2020” finishes off the design.
The Air Max 90 Plus features a black upper with detailing resembling the milky way. Crimson and orange highlights provide contrast along with a striking white mid-sole. A “Nike” hang-tag and an orange highlighted out-sole completes the design.
Finally, the Air max 270 React Supernova is perhaps the most reflective of the trio. It features a vibrant mid foot/toe box composed of an array of different colors of the galaxy.
A bright orange, presumably to symbolize the sun’s light, can be seen on the forefoot, heel and on the Air Unit.

Resale Value
To estimate the resale value of each of the 3 silhouettes, let’s head over to StockX. By assessing how similar colorways are doing on the resale market. We can gather a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Nike Air Max Supernova 2020 Pack.
Nike Air Max 95 Galaxy Splatter
Retail Price: $180
Peak Resell: $300
Release Date: 07/27/2018
Colorway: Black/Metallic Gold-Cobalt Blaze
This sneaker features a black, multi-colored speckled upper with various color tones in a wavy pattern across the lateral sides. Providing a galaxy-like theme.
According to StockX, the trade range is between $179-$276 with the average price being $188. That’s pretty low resale however, it’s seen a rise currently. Selling for as high as $300.
After tax and service fees, that’s a profit of over $100.
Nike Air Max Plus Alternate Galaxy
Retail Price: $160
Peak Resell: $300
Release date: 05/17/2018
Colorway: Sail/MENTA-Hyper Crimson
This Air Max plus comes in a white upper with multi-colored alternate galaxy hues on the lateral sides. Tones of green on the “Swoosh”, upper and air units provide further contrast.
The resale for these is slightly better with the average price being around $189. After service fees and tax however, not much is left over.
At Peak resale, profits are as high as $140 before tax and service fees.
Nike React Presto Galaxy
Retail Price: $140
Peak Resell: $125
Release Date: 03/30/2020
Colorway: Black/White-Orange-Purple
This sneaker too provides a purple hue on the speckled upper, a black collar and white mid-sole. Further orange hits provide contrast throughout the sneaker.
These are unfortunately very unprofitable with not a single pair being sold for over retail prices recently. Over all, i’d say they’ve bricked pretty hard.
Coming to the resale estimates, let’s start with the Air Max 90 Supernova. Prices aren’t confirmed but they usually sell for around $140.
Thus to get your money back, you’ll need to sell for around $167. With my estimated resell predictions, I don’t expect any profits and believe they’ll sell for very little above retail.
For the Air Max Plus Supernova, you’re looking at minor lunch money in profits. To get your money back, you’ll need to sell for at least $200 assuming retail is priced at $170.
Lastly, The Air Max 270 React Supernova also looks to be pretty unprofitable as well. Assuming they retail for around $140, you’ll have to sell for $167 to get your money back. That does not seem likely as estimated resell is around $150.
Currently, bids on StockX for all 3 sneakers in the Nike Air Max Supernova 2020 Pack are pretty low and float around retail prices.
