Coming in at #5: the Nike Air Max 1 AMS Parra Amsterdam.
Who would have ever thought the color combo of Brownstone/Blue Reef-Dark Oak, also known as the Parra x Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam” would become one of the sought after sneakers of all time?
Parra’s first Air Max design became a hit thanks to its unique color combo and Parra’s self-taught illustrative skill that can be seen on the insoles. The Amsterdam crest on the heel of this Parra x Air Max 1 all but defined its nickname from the very beginning. With a rumored 200-300 pairs in existence, including a small amount that hit Nike outlet stores and sold for as low as $30, the Parra Air Max 1 has become one of the most collectible sneakers ever.
Next up, at #4: the Nike Air Max 1 Atmos Animal Pack 2.0.
Made in collaboration with Atmos, these are a new take on the classic “Animal” AM95, originally released in 2007. Coming in wheat, sport red, bison, and classic green, they feature a synthetic tiger, leopard, zebra, and pony print.
Red accents the “Swoosh” on the sides while black detailing on the upper, replacing the ivory found on the OG’s finishes this pair off. They first dropped on March 2nd, 2018, exclusively via the Nike SNKRS Pass to NYC-based customers via SNKRS.
A second drop followed on March 17th, 2018, at select Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide. These sneakers created a totally new genre in sneakers and opened people’s minds to the possibilities that they could take footwear.
At #3: the Nike Air Max 1 Parra (2018).
Once again a Nike x Parra collaboration makes it on to this list. It just goes to show you how dominant these two can be together.
This Nike Air Max 1 takes abstract interpretations of cityscape and landscape imagery, applying it to Air Max’s iconic silhouette. Using his traditional color palette of white, light blue, red, grey, and pink, this pair is sure to turn heads with its unique and vibrant style.
Releasing in limited numbers, this pair retailed for $150 in July 2018.
Some of the newer resellers might be more familiar with this pair as it did release only a couple of years ago. That, however, doesn’t detract from the fact that this is and will continue to be one of the great Air Max 1’s to ever release.
Second place: the Nike Air Max 1 Atmos Elephant (2007).
One of the most sought after sneakers of all time is the atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant” print design from 2007.
The design came from the creative minds at Japanese based retailer atmos and has survived the test of time thanks to a tasteful combination of popular elements and of course, a limited production number.
Though an official number of pairs was never given, the release of the Elephant Print Air Max 1 by atmos has become more valuable over the years because its design is considered much more “wearable” than other Air Max designs of the era, giving it a broader appeal.
Finally, at #1: Air Max 1 OG ‘Varsity Red’ 1987.
Ladies and gentlemen, the most iconic Air Max 1. The first of it’s kind, and the questionably one of the most influential pairs to ever be sold.
The Air Max 1 OG ‘Varsity Red’ released in 1987, and as you can see from the picture, any pair around is probably wearing down.
Not much needs to be said about this pair, just one word: legendary.
