Earlier in December, Nike announced a multi-year partnership with UCLA Athletics which includes being the sole provider of sports-wear equipment for UCLA starting from early 2021. In celebration, we’ve had confirmation of a few UCLA inspired sneakers such as the recent Nike Dunk Low.

This time, Nike and Undefeated are set to release this Air Max 97 in celebration of their partnership.

Air Max 97 x Undefeated

Many sneakers have had their time as the most popular or the most memorable while others, such as the Nike Air Max 97 and Plus are among the category of “Best Sellers”

Christian Tresser & Sean Dowell were responsible for the difficult task of creating the next best running shoe. At the time during the 1990s, Nike running shoes were more than just for running.

They were cultural icons. Tresser was told that this sneaker would “Either make or break your career”, no pressure right?

Luckily, it all worked out, the Air Max 97 was a hit and Tresser got to keep his job. Although most Air Max 97s aren’t that particularly hyped, the collaboration with Undefeated from 2017 is one of the best in the Air Max’s history.

LA-based sneaker boutique, Undefeated was founded in 2002 as a flea market-style sneaker shop that rose from humble beginnings into a world-renowned premium sneaker boutique.

Through hyped collaborations with brands such as Bathing Ape, ASICS, and Nike, Undefeated is now an internationally recognized name within the sneaker world with valuable collaborative sneakers. The Undefeated Air Max 97s from 2017, for example, will cost you upward of $500 a pair.

The Undefeated Nike Air Max 97 Black Volt released right at the end of December with promising resale value. Turns out, demand wasn’t super high as people today aren’t willing to pay much much over $200.

These sneakers come in black uppers with neon stitching along a black border-line across the lateral sides. A white midsole with an exposed Air Unit and black/Volt outsole complete the look.

The average gross profit per pair for these sneakers is just around $20 per pair. Unlike the 2017 pairs that are still selling for over $500, the Black Volt Undefeated Air Max 97 is not very profitable.

Colorway:  SAIL/WHITE-AERO BLUE-MIDNIGHT GOLD

This Bruins-colored Air Max 97 comes primarily in a white leather upper with blue and gold hits throughout. White “Undefeated” branding appears on the blue side waves repeatedly under a similar yellow stripe that hints at the university’s colors.

Mesh and leather construction make up most of the sneaker while blue branding and a yellow pull on the tongue provide contrast. A small white ‘Swoosh’ sits underneath the perpetual “Undefeated” branding while a transparent midsole and tan outsole complete the look.

Estimated Resell Value

I believe these sneakers will definitely sell out, considering how popular this collaboration is as well as being a UCLA-themed colorway. I also expect some profits to be likely.

Using my estimated resell value of $220, expect gross profits of around $40 per pair. Resale may be slightly higher than the other two colorways as this is a special university-themed sneaker.
