The Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio pack is expected to be profitable as it’s a re-imagination of the highly sought after 252 pack. Just how profitable though? We’ll get into that later. First, let’s get into some history!
Skip to conclusion for summarized information all in one place.
KITH
Ronnie Fieg is the name behind this highly prestigious New-York based brand. It seems to be getting more popular year-by-year by how did it get here?
When Fieg was only 13 years old, he started working with his cousin at the David Z store in New York. At 25 however, he started managing partnerships and collaborated with various brands. This lead to Ronnie helping design a colorway for the Asics Gel-Lyte III.
It was so popular that it was even on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. As expected, they sold out instantly.
After collaborating with many hyped Street-Wear brands, he decided to aim for something else. The New-Yorker’s attention shifted to smaller brands such as Sebago.
This was just before he decided to open his own store in 2011 in Brooklyn and Manhattan. That’s when ‘KITH’ started to build a more independent identity and reputation.
Later in 2014, he decided to launch his own clothing line called “Kith Classics”. The line included a bunch of items that is still highly limited and sought after. People have actually slept out side of stores before limited releases!
After collaborations with Nike, OFF-WHITE and ASICS, the KITH brand has become a street-wear icon.
KITH x ASICS
If you think about the best sneaker collaborations in history, KITH and ASICS top that list for many. Not only is this a story of success but of faith in your partners. The faith Asics has had in Ronnie and his abilities is just inspirational.
As I mentioned before, Asics, let him make his own colorway for the GEL-Lyte III. Considering that Fieg was quite young and inexperienced at the time, it showed Asics’ trust in him.
The collaboration sneaker was called the “252 Pack” as that was the number of pairs manufactured at the time.
Ronnie is undeniably a very important partner of Asics and they together have created some of the most iconic sneakers in street-wear history. The duo has over 12 years of experience and 72 pairs released together.
The Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio pack is just one of those very special releases. It also has potential to be very profitable just like its predecessors.
To get a more accurate resale estimate, let’s check out a few similar examples on StockX.
Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Moncler Cream
Retail Price: $225
Peak Resell: $525
Release Date: 12/09/2017
Colorway: Cream/White
These kicks feature a pretty clean over–all look with a cream sued upper. They include contrasting dark blue laces with a red and white pattern to match the branding on the tongue.
It also has cream tiger stripes on the lateral sides and “GEL-Lyte III” branding near the heal. Finally, a white mid-sole and a tan out-sole finishes off the design.
On StockX, its resale has been pretty decent with consistent profits. Those prices however, have varied among the sizes. The average price is $296 which is a gross profit of $70. The larger sizes, particularly over 10 are most profitable.
At peak resale prices, profits are as high as $300. That’s pretty good but I expect the Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio to do even better.
ASICS Gel-Lyte III Ronnie Fieg Super Blue
Retail Price: $180
Peak Resell: $450
Release Date: 10/07/2019
Colorway: Grey/Super Blue
This sneaker payed homage to Asics and Kith’s 10th anniversary. It rocks an almost entirely grey sued upper with blue hits. Particularly on the tiger stripes, beside the toe caps and in the middle of the out-sole.
On StockX, these too have remained profitable with the average price being $249. That’s an average gross profit of $69 and a peak selling profit of $270. Since that’s more than just lunch money, it gets a thumbs-up from me.
ASICS Gel-Lyte III Ronnie Fieg “Homage”
Retail Price: $325
Peak Resell: $600
Release Date: 12/23/2015
Colorway: Multi-Color
This sneaker was released to pay homage to the Asics GEL-Lyte III and the 25 versions that Ronnie designed. The Homage GEL-Lyte 3 uses 3 colors and materials from 13 different variants.
The excitement grew after Asics announced extra items with the shoes such as socks and laces. It was so hyped that a lot of sneaker blogs deemed it the best sneaker of 2015. This sneaker in summary, feels like an amalgamation of all the sneakers that the duo produced together.
The resale prices on StockX are as expected, pretty high. The average selling price is $400 which is a gross profit of $75. The margin isn’t too great due to the high price tag however, still quite profitable.
We can expect resale of the Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio pack to be similar to the aforementioned sneakers.
Kith x ASICS GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio
Retail Price: $180
Estimated Resell: (Yoshino) $270
(Super Gold) $300
(252.1) $400
Release Date: 07/27/2020
Colorway: Black/Gold & White/Gold & White/Yoshino Rose
Each sneaker in this pack not only represents an aspect of Japanese culture but also Ronnie’s achievements.
The first sneaker and perhaps the most hyped is the Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio 252.1. This sneaker is a re-imagined version of the “252 Pack” which was Ronnie and Asics’ first collaboration back in 2007.
Ronnie Fieg always wanted to bring it to the states and his dream finally comes true with this slightly altered version. It features a black upper, golden Asics stripes and a Pink sued toe.
The second sneaker is the Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio Yoshino. The color tones used is a breath of fresh air as they represent the majestic Sakura tree. The tree’s blooming season is celebrated in Japan and the sight is something to behold. The pink sued on this sneaker represents the stunning light pink shade of the cherry blossoms.
This variant features a white mesh vamp, pink sued panels and rose Asics stripes.
The last sneaker is the Kith Asics GEL-Lyte III Tokyo Trio Super Gold. The colors on this sneaker were chosen to represent the Tokyo Olympic Games that was scheduled for later this year. The red, white and blue colors used are possibly a nod to the US Olympic Team.
Take a moment to enjoy these detailed images of the trio.
Resale Value
We can expect one thing from these sneakers, they will be limited. Although they will be hard to get, that also means good resale value.
To get your money back after a standard US tax rate and service fee. You’ll need to sell each sneaker for at least $215. Thus by using my estimated resale value, you can expect profits of around $90 for the Yoshino, $120 for the Super Gold and a massive $220 for the 252.1.
As for the Yoshino and Super Gold, I don’t expect profits too high as heir relatively new colorways. However, the 252.1 seems to be the most sought after and definitely the most lucrative.
