Nike Kobe 5 Protro Lakers – Release Guide

Dear sneakerheads, today’s edition of our sneaker release guide is especially dear to my heart. It’s been almost two months since the tragic passing away of one of my favorite and arguably the best shooting guard that game has ever seen – Kobe Bryant.

His death came as a shock to all of us. Not just basketball fans, but any person who’s not living under a rock.

Kobe was known for his work ethic and leadership spirit. He was talented but that’s not what made him great. His commitment to the game and the fans was the reason, why he was regarded as the best. And with him gone, the NBA has a void to fill – which I’m afraid will take a long while.

Since Kobe’s passing away, Nike has taken a step back from releasing the Kobe brand sneakers and rightly so. However, we finally have confirmed sources that Nike will be dropping a new Kobe pair this month.

Here are all the details of the Kobe 5 Protro Lakers:

Donned by the power forward of the Lakers in the All-Star game, Anthony Davis gave glimpses of the new Kobe 5 Protro to the audience. This made us ask questions regarding when and whether or not will Nike be releasing the shoe. Well, we finally have the answers.

Release Date: The Kobe 5 Protro Lakers will be available on 26^th March 2020.

Retail Price: $180.

From the images, it is pretty clear as to why this rendition of the Kobe is labeled Lakers. It features the color palette of Bryant’s team.

The sneaker features a purple synthetic upper coupled with detailing of black and outlining of gold. Taking a look at the back heel, we can see that there is a snakeskin pattern. Moreover, on the tongue of the shoe, we can see a metallic silver Kobe branding.

The Kobe signature is also featured on the heel and the insole is made up of the LA Lakers inspired theme.

Given that it’s releasing exactly two months after the passing away of Kobe, there is a lot of demand for the Kobe 5 Protro Lakers. But to give you a reasonable estimate, we will have to look at the past releases.

Nike Kobe 5 Protro Big Stage/Parade

As we predicted on our release guide of the Kobe 5 Protro Big Stage/Parade, the shoe has been reselling for an average of almost $900. Some sales have even been exceeding the $1000 mark. This significant pair is a contrast between what Kobe Bryant wore to his 5th Championship final games.

The Big Stage/Parade had us all riled up and even though it only retailed for $200, the profit margin has been exponential, most likely fueled by the untimely demise of the black mamba.

Nike Kobe 5 Protro 2K Gamer Exclusive

Released on 26^th of December, 2019 this sneaker retailed at $180. According to StockX, the sneaker resells easily at an average price of $410.

Nike Kobe 5 Protro Chaos

Originally released in 2009, the Chaos featured again in January of 2019. With its vivid color scheme, the sneaker gained quite a decent amount of traction within the sneaker community. It retailed at $175 and is being resold at $316.

Nike Kobe 5 Protro Lakers

According to the Stockx data, the resale value of the shoe is currently at $400. However, I believe that the shoe is undervalued at this price. Fans of the game will be willing to pay more than that as the release date gets closer.

According to our estimates, the Kobe Protro Lakers will be resold at an average of $500 at least.
