Basketball superstar LeBron James and Nike have had an impressive, illustrious relationship for over 15 years now. LeBron is now on his 17th signature model in his line. We’re not talking about that today. We’re going back into the vault to revisit one of his more popular sneakers. Coming this Saturday for $200 is the Lebron 7 “Media Day”.

While this color way hasn’t been released in the past, it’s still safe to call this a retro model. Personally I believe it’s great that we’re getting to a point where the LBJ shoe catalog is so large that we have good reason to go back in time and get more oldies that might have been unattainable or falling apart at this point.

Scroll to the conclusion to get quick, need to know details for the release. Otherwise sit back and read up on more Lebron talk.

THE DESIGN & DETAILS

Originally unveiled at NBA Media Day 2019, the Nike LeBron 7 “Media Day” is now set for an official release. Recently Nike announced the shoe created celebrate LeBron James’ move to the Los Angeles Lakers will be dropping in Big Kids and Adult sizing.

The take on the popular LeBron 7 utilizes the basketball team’s iconic colors with purple and yellow dressing the left and right shoe respectively. The court-ready premium uppers are constructed to express a two-tone design assisted by an underpinning of white.

Branding comes in the form of LEBRON/JAMES dubraes, the basketball star’s signature at the tongue, midfoot Swooshes, printed insoles and LeBron signature logos at the heel. Elevating the shoe is a speckled full-length Air midsole paired with purple/yellow contrast rubber outsoles.

Now let’s get a peek at the sneakers.

tHE LEBRON VII HISTORY

The Nike LeBron VII was released in 2009 and whole new shoe with a new concept. This new shoe used Air Max cushioning, which was not used before in the previous LeBron designs. Another feature that stands out is the flywire, which contains exactly 23 wires representing LeBron’s number with the Cavaliers.

This shoe also includes a boot like shape and has a small toe box in the front for maximum support. Overall, the LeBron VII has a solid frame, which helped LeBron avoid injury through a rigorous NBA season.

In 2009, LeBron James was still apart of the Cleveland Cavaliers and was continuing to perform at a high level. James was averaging about 29.7 points per game was carrying the Cavaliers on his back. James was also given a heavy amount of minutes during the regular season, which takes a toll on players.

Some of my favorites in the line were this Heroes Pack iteration. A tribute to Michael Jordan. Bred 11 much?

DJ Clark Kent’s Friends & Family “112” work on the LeBron series is best known on the 8 but it appeared prior on the 7, which I also adore.

Resale Anticipation

Okay folks, listen up. More than likely, this will not be a super hot shoe for reselling. We’re saying this by looking at previous releases, comparing results, and speculating. In 2019, there were 3 Lebron 7s to release – all retro models that already had a significant buzz in the past. These were the China Moon, Red Carpet, and Christmas colorways. NONE are selling for more than the retail price.

Why is this? Honestly, I’m not sure. There’s plenty of LeBron James fans out there! I would have imagined a pair like the Red Carpet to do well, but sadly not so far.

The $200 price tag might be an attribution too. Of course there’s a lot of tech in a performance basketball shoe like this, but I consider it a little lofty for consumers. Another paradigm switch is that people aren’t necessarily wearing basketball shoes like this casually anymore. Back in the day sure, you would see Lebron, Kobes, and KDs everywhere off court. Now I don’t know if that’s as true.

Let this be a lesson though, if you like the shoes, go buy a pair. Don’t let resell market dictate you always!

With Lebron gaining a full head of steam in this unfinished NBA season, we can only hope that the year continues somehow and we get to see him in another playoff run. Whether you’ve been binging MJ’S Last Dance documentary or a diehard LBJ fan, you have to root for greatness!

Another future event that should stir up some coverage is Space Jam 2 starring Lebron which is set to debut in 2021. It’s safe to say we’ll get a few Space Jam themed shoes in the next year.
