New Balance Running Shoes |History

From KLEKT

If you think about a running shoe, what comes to mind for most is probably an Adidas or Nike. Back in the day however, New Balance dominated the running shoe scene with their high quality foot-wear.

However, fans believe they are on the rise again and may emulate the competition once more.

William J. Riley founded New Balance in 1906 after recognizing an opportunity in the sports world. He used to make orthopedic products for people with disabilities. He even made equipment for working personnel that needed to stand for long periods of time.

Due to his excellent craftsmanship, he believed the sports-wear niche could be way more lucrative and shifted his skills towards making performance sneakers.

His work was so exceptional that pro athletes would ask for personal tailored sneakers. Later on, business was handed over to Paul Rudd who did well to grow New Balance.

In 1961, they released their first official sneaker known as the “Trackster”. An instant classic that sneaker heads still yearn for.

It wasn’t until winning the World Runner Magazine Award that New Balance became a house hold name, continuing the legacy of making high quality shoes to this day.

New Balance 327|Design & Technology

New Balance’s latest silhouette, the 327 is a familiar yet unique new sneaker. The familiarity comes from the inspiration the sneaker takes from its predecessors throughout New Balance’s history.

The “N” logo on the lateral sides is taken from the iconic New Balance 320. It released back in 1976 and won many NYC marathon awards, garnering a respectable following among elite athletes.

The rugged out-sole is inspired by the New Balance 355. The sneaker released in 1977 and had much to offer to new athletes with its advanced traction feature.

Lastly, the 327 is also inspired by the New Balance SuperComp. The sneaker was pretty much a fusion of the 320 and 355 with a versatile upper and wrapped forefoot.

The New Balance 327 blends all these features into one sneaker while taking a more modern approach to the design.

The 327 so far is being sold out, putting new balance back on the map.

To estimate the resale value of the sneakers in the New Balance 327 Summer 2020 Collection. Let’s head over to StockX to see how similar colorways are doing on the resale market.

New Balance 327 Orange Blue

Via STockX

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $300

Release Date: 05/08/2020

Colorway: Blue/Orange

These sneakers feature a nylon and sued upper in an energizing blue with orange hits in the middle. The sneaker also comes with an over-sized “N”, a yellow mid-sole and black rugged out-sole. Striking white laces and interior finishes off the design.

According to StockX, these are consistently selling for around $150. The average reselling price is $165 which is a decent gross profit of $65. At peak resale, gross profit is a respectable $200.

If you copped enough pairs and sold at the right time, that’s a great week’s work!

New Balance 327 Brown Grey

Via StockX

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $305

Release Date: 05/08/2020

Colorway: Brown/Grey

This sneaker is pretty similar to 2 of the colorways on the New Balance 327 Summer 2020 Collection Lineup. Particularly the New Balance 327 Castle Rock and new Balance 327 Munsell White.

It features a nylon and sued upper dominated by pretty dull colors in my opinion. Brown and grey cover the upper with a Dark over grown “N” made of sued. A tan studded out-sole which extends up to the heel finishes off the design.

On StockX, it’s pretty much the same story with minor profits but over-all profitable. The average price is around $165. That’s an average gross profit of $65 which is pretty good if you cop multiple pairs.

At peak resale, resale price is $305 similar to the orange/blue colorway. Making this sneaker a pretty decent cop.

New Balance 327 Pride (2020)

New Balance 327 Pride 2020 StockX
Via StockX

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $400

Release Date: 06/01/2020

Colorway: White/Multi

This sneaker features a white nylon upper with multi-colored sued overlay throughout. A white mid-sole and dark brown studded out-sole completes the design.

On StockX, the average price is $143 which is a gross profit of $43. After deducting a tax rate and service fee, you’ll be left with some lunch money however, it still is profitable.

This sneaker in particular looks much like the New Balance 327 Neo Flame/Varsity Gold. Thus I expect that colorway to resell similar to this one.

Estimated Resell

Judging by the colorways above, I expect these to make some profits for sure. Although there is almost no information available currently on StockX. I expect the usual $40-$60 profits.

To get your money back after applying a standard US tax rate and service fee. You’ll need to sell each shoe for at least $120.

By using my estimated resell value, I expect the New Balance 327 Oak Leaf green to sell with a profit of $20 per pair. For the other 4 colorways, I expect around $40 in pure profits per pair.
