What You Can Find at the Bodega
If you’ve been living under a rock you may be unaware that New Balance is having a moment in sneaker culture right now. It’s tough to argue the success they’ve been having with Jjjjound, Aime Leon Dore, Kith, Concepts, and last but not least – Bodega.
The Boston based sneaker and streetwear boutique has been on quite the hot streak. In 2019, the first part of the trilogy released. That was dubbed the “No Days Off”. An instant classic and still fetches in the $600-$700 range. Not bad for a $160 retail shoe!
About 6 months later, we saw the sequel – the “No Bad Days”. Perhaps my personal favorite of the recent collabs, in my humble opinion. You can usually find these in the high $300 tier.
Another silhouette the two have teamed up on recently is the All Terrain X-Racer. These are more in my price range and may be one I’m adding to the collection soon. Love the utilitarian aesthetic.
Now we can talk about the latest member of the crew.
The Looks and Inspiration
Together, Bodega and New Balance have a rich history of collaborating on sneaker projects. As aforementioned, some of their most notable creations fall under their 997S series that was first proffered to the market back in April 2019. Fast forward to nearly a year and a half later, the two institutions are set to reconvene here shortly and deliver the final chapter of the collection with an official release of the “Better Days” colorway.
Following the reveal of its first images yesterday, we now have an exclusive look at the pair in all its glory. Right off the bat, you’ll notice that they are packed chock full of outdoor-friendly tones, and this is further confirmed by the animated desert/horseback-riding graphic that’s printed atop the footbeds. Mixing hues both vibrant and trail-appropriate, this 997S iteration transitions from grey/white toe boxes to tan-colored mid-foot overlays to its padded heel underlays dyed with a louder crimson skin. Additional upper details arrive by way of its diamond-patterned heels that are externally colored in a mud brown and internally dyed with a bright purple, as well as the tongues which feature a repeating Bodega-printed banner that runs down its throat — a detail that’s absent on the first two releases. The ABZORB cushioning unit down below is housed within a segmented midsole that alternates between neutral tones, and is strung together with gum treading.
Take a look at the pair below, and see if they’re a pair you’d like to have on feet.
Conclusion and Resale Anticipation
I believe it goes without saying but these sneakers should be on everyone’s radar whether you’re trying to rock them or resell them. The NB and Bodega partnership has continued to raise the bar in terms of hyped sneaker releases.
