Getting inside the tech
After debuting in a “Motherboard” colorway on Air Max Day, Nike’s ultra-advanced Adapt Auto Max is now set to release in an “Infrared” color scheme. Joining the ranks of Nike Sportswear and Nike Basketball‘s power-lacing silhouettes like the Adapt Huarache, Adapt BB 2 and Adapt BB, the Adapt Auto Max seamlessly weaves space-age style and tech with classic Swoosh storytelling.
Where the aforementioned “Motherboard” was a brand-new colorway, the “Infrared” seems to draw from the memorable Air Max 90 of the same name. Sleek seamless synthetic uppers are dressed in a Nike MAG-esque grey and equipped with a silver Swoosh, silver tongue branding and a hi-vis reflective heel tab. Pods around the throat add further texture, but things get truly enthralling towards the rear. There, a plastic heel clip connects with a piece of textured red rubber that’s branded with black Nike hits, extended farther back and drops down onto the thick midsole.
This midsole is made of two main pieces: the former, a grey EVA foam with a tonal scrawled print that looks like pencil doodles, the latter more ridged red rubber that surrounds the midfoot’s power lacing unit and the heel’s Air Max bubble. The power lacing unit enables no-touch adjustment of the throat’s straps from iPhone or Android devices, and the color of its two lights can also be customized from the same app that controls the fit.
Enjoy the better images we’ve gathered.
Of course, this unit needs to be charged — so the Adapt Auto Max’s sizable special box includes a flat charging pad alongside what appears to be a small red figure.
Nike’s previous endeavors
Like I alluded to before, it’s no secret that Nike has been on the frontline in terms of footwear technology and innovation. Weather it has been exposed air bubbles, strong yet lightweight materials, legendary movie props, or self lacing shoes; Nike has always been ahead of the curve.
Here’s a short list of some of the products that have set a new standard in terms of advanced technology.

Resale Anticipation
The Adapt Auto Max is a tricky shoe to predict. With such an astronomically high retail price tag, you have to wonder if anyone is willing to overpay. Being that this is such a unique and tech heavy silhouette, certain folks may need to get their hands on a pair. And this will only be the 2nd opportunity for someone to do that for retail. These will definitely be a sellout on the SNKRS app.
Speaking of releases, the only other Auto Max to drop was the Motherboard color way mentioned above. So far, after about a month and a half on the market, the average resale price is $527. That’s not too bad!
Right now we’re seeing early pairs of the Infrared color way floating for around the same, just at $516. To be honest, I like this iteration much more than the yellow on the Motherboard and can see it selling better.
If you have the capital to shell out, I think this should be a good pickup to make some money off of. See details below.
Release Info and conclusion
RELEASE DATE: 5/20/20
RETAIL PRICE: $400
AVERAGE RESALE VALUE: $520
RETAIL POINTS: Nike SNKRS
After the release, check your usual spots – StockX, GOAT, Grailed, eBay, Reddit. If you’re looking to sell, I would consider trying to take your business wherever you can incur the least fees. With such a large sale in this case (hopefully over $500) that 9.5% transaction fee is not attractive.
