Nike Daybreak| The OG Runners

Nike Daybreak Retro History Background
From Backseries

The Nike Day Break sneakers are very important as it was one of the first running shoes the “Swoosh” was printed on. Before “Nike” was a thing, the Swoosh was actually called the Blue Ribbon Sports, founded in 1964 in Oregon US.

The first performance shoes the company made were running shoes with minimal branding. The Nike Blazer was among the first to feature a big Swoosh which familiarised people with the new and more modern “Nike” brand.

The Nike Daybreak was also one of Nike’s first running shoes when it was mass-produced in 1979. The color options available at the time were interesting including a navy blue one that appeared to be made out of denim.

This sneaker is quite simple by today’s standards with simple design choices. At the time, however, these sneakers were seen as modern, and at the time, they truly were.

The midsole featured EVA technology while cupped insoles made them even more desirable and comfortable. It also had padded collars which weren’t as common as they are today.

Of course, the popularity of the Nike Daybreak has been cannibalized by Nike’s Air Max but it still sells really well. Especially for those on a budget. To estimate resale for the Nike Daybreak Chicago, let’s head over to StockX.

From StockX

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $210

Release Date: 06/22/2019

Colorway: WHITE/UNIVERSITY RED-SUMMIT WHITE

This Nike Daybreak maintains much of its retro appearance with the grey hued underlay and suede overlay. A Vibrant red ‘Swoosh’ that goes all the way up to the collars provides a stark contrast. A white midsole and a black studded outsole complete the look.

On average, the reselling price is just around $115 per pair which is a gross profit of $15 on average. Although they’ve been sold for as high as $210, resellers haven’t been able to make crazy amounts of money off of them. The Nike Daybreak “Chicago” may have slightly higher resale.

The Nike Daybreak Pure Platinum Gym Red AKA “Chicago” comes in a fan-favorite color with its own retro twist. The majority of the sneaker is white nylon while a vibrant gym red suede overlay embellishes the design.

Further hits of black can be seen on the ‘Swoosh’ while also covering the insole which features contrasting red branding. Nike branding on the tongue and heel tabs, a white midsole, and a studded black outsole complete the look.

Estimated Resell Value

These sneakers may possibly take some time to sell out but they will. I don’t see them sitting on shelves for too long because of the appealing colorway.

Using my estimated resell value of $120, I wouldn’t expect profits much higher than $20 and recommend going for personal sizes only.
