Most recently, the Samba Dunk Low released in August. Even with such short lifespan, resale on it is already $266. Let’s not forget that Dunks only retail for $100 typically.

In July we saw the University Red Dunk Low. This Nike Dunk originally debuted as part of the 1985 Nike College Color’s program, a program that delivered footwear in the school colors of 12 popular basketball programs. Now in 2020 it’s going for $369 on average.

A shoe related to the Veneer, back in February we saw the Plum Dunk Low. While it’s resale price is averaging $272, sales in the past few days have been in the high $300 into the $400 tier.

The Looks and Inspiration

The next portion of Nike’s bring-back of the Ugly Ducklings is arriving on November 10th with the release of the “Veneer”. The other pieces of that Ugly Duckling trio were the Plum and Ceramic Dunks. As we mentioned above, the Plum’s already got their shine with a 2020 rerelease and the Ceramic’s are on the way as well. Originally releasing exclusively in Japan, the Nike Dunk Low “Veneer” is remembered for its rather drab mix of colors. The shoe is treated in premium suede and shades of veneer, deep purple and autumn green. This rerun also features mesh tongues, woven tongue labels and embroidered Nike lettering on the heel tab, just like the OG. Naturally over the years since its debut, the Ugly Duckling Dunks as a set gained its popularity as a collectors item, only to be re-introduced to the new era of Dunk fans we’re seeing now. And with obscure colors in high demand, there’s no doubt that these will be a highly coveted pair once they release next month. Here’s the official images below. Check them out and let us know if they’re a pair you’d like to see in your rotation. Those materials look top notch.

Conclusion and Resale Anticipation

Nike is absolutely killing it with these Dunks. Whether they’re highs or lows, retros or new original colorways – they’ve all been wildly successful. The Veneer will be no exception and we’re not complaining at all. It wouldn’t surprise me if these fetch into the $400 range. What a huge price premium from $100 retail!
