We’ve seen a significant rise in the majority’s penchant for the Nike Dunk silhouette through various coveted releases this year.

Sneakers such as the Nike SB Dunk Supreme collab and Nike SB Dunk Parras have helped propel the model in the forefront of the sneaker community.

It culminates to this: rounding out the year welcomes the Nike Dunk Low “Viotech”, which should attract buyers who wish to purchase for personals or resale.

The sneaker that possesses vibrant and abstract hues is only one of the many hyped sneaker releases in the month of December.

In fact, just the first week of December has led to many people bringing out the Brinks truck.

NIKE DUNK LOW VIOTECH: THE RECENT HYPE

It’s hard—impossible even—to overlook the “Viotech” colorway on any shoe palette, and maybe that’s why a hypebeast leader in the game, Virgil Abloh, owns a few pairs.

Civil Engineer major turned streetwear designer, Virgil Abloh, was traveling last November from Paris Charles de Gaulle when he decided to do something even us mere mortals would do during travel—post an “on the road” Instagram photo.

Abloh wasn’t rocking his world-renowned Off-White sneakers though—just Rimowa x Off-White clothing time time—instead, he had a distinctive Nike Dunk Viotech colorway on his feet.

The proceeding months included Abloh adhering to the vibrant colorway, as two more photos surfaced with the multicolored Dunks.

The first picture was just a tease, and by the third photo, the hype was through the roof.

It wasn’t uncommon to find prices on reselling sites catapult to over $300—well over retail value.

Veterens in the game who were all-too-common with the Viotech colorway and newcomers who were introduced to them for the first time were engulfed in the hype.

Although the Dunks vibe has been back since 2018, as the natural progression of fashion tends to do, the source of trend started well before Virgil Abloh had his name in the game.

NIKE DUNK LOW VIOTECH: THE START

The lively colorway is being retroed from its original 2002 release, exclusively in Japan.

As one would assume, the shoe was heavily sought-after and a fan favorite due to its loud colors.

Colors such as red, orange, and yellow are not dull by any stretch of the imagination and are the reason for sneakerhead’s penchant for the shoe.

Now mind you, back in 2002, Dunks were tremendously popular and one of the most hunted shoe during this time. In addition, the sneaker assisted in introducing the world to the power of color blocking.

The Japanese market had various nicknames for sneakers. In fact, the initial release included the Viotechs in the “Ugly Ducking” Pack.

If you care to know, the other shoes were the “Plum”, “Veneer”, and “Ceramics.”

It was Nike’s first attempt to resonate toward the skateboarding market. With the help of Nike veteran Sandy Bodecker, who has now sadly passed away, the sports-attire giant successfully introduced an iconic silhouette that now has had a resurgence from its under-retail days.

The pair had last surfaced in 2013, and after designers like Aleali May and Virgil Abloh have displayed their affection toward the model, it will return December 10th.

NIKE DUNK LOWS: A CLOSER LOOK

While the initial release was exclusive to the sneakerheads of Japan, the shoe will still boast its rich color scheme even here in the states.

The iconic Nike Dunk silhouette’s Viotech colorway is something you’d either find at the end of a rainbow or perhaps a rainbow pierced through an all sail version of a Nike Dunk.

The white midsole acts as the peacemaker between all the colors fighting over dominance.

To better explain, there’s a bright yellow Nike swoosh that drives between a green heel collar, a purple rear panel, and the orange quarter panel.

Rounding towards the front is the red mudguard on a blue toe—are you keeping up? The eyelets find themselves in an all-blue colorway with gray shoelaces woven throughout.

Meanwhile, the tongue of the shoe is doused with a bright orange Nike trademark logo, with a purple insole that also boasts Nike branding.

In addition, the south side of the heel collar is on a suede purple while the north side is green with visible three-lined stitching.

Finally, the heel states “NIKE” and the outsole is a mild purple to complete the iconic Nike Dunk look.

NIKE DUNK LOW VIOTECH RESALE

As we do with all the resale projections on Six Figure Sneakerhead, the past performance of Viotech predecessors must be evaluated for an educated resale value projection.

Without a doubt, the first sneaker sample will be the resale statistics of the Nike SB Lunk low 2013 edition.

With a retail value of just a hundred, the resale value has more than tripled as a size 9 holds numbers over $500. The beauty of holding onto a sneaker, as you would with any asset, is that it can compound over time.

This has been a lost art in modern-day reselling, unfortunately.

Due to the brief history lesson on how the Viotechs came to fruition, it would be a crime if the Nike Dunk Pro Low Viotech of 2002 was not mentioned on a resale analysis.

As you may have guessed, the OG Japan-exclusive edition holds extremely high monetary value. In fact, a size nine now demands just short of one grand to land on your doorsteps.

Although the 2019 version will not immediately flaunt numbers like the 2013 nor 2002 releases, the retro should still boast resale prices between $150 to $300.

Also, if you want to treat the sneaker like the true asset it should be viewed as, the price should rise over time.

Nike is bringing the vibrant OG colorway back to conclude the year, however, one must be opportunistic to acquire the shoe—Six Figure Sneakerhead can help with that.
