If you’ve seen Instagram lately, you will have noticed that the Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead is heavily influenced by bears. What I mean by that is that we see almost a fur-like material on the shoe and even distinct bears on each of the sneakers.
So, what does a sneaker company have to do with bears? Well in 1973 Grateful Dead released an album and on the artwork of that album cover, you could see bears. Now there are five different bears in various two-tone colors.
Now, why would a rock band include bears on their album cover? Well, it was a reference to an audio engineer Owsley Stanley who went by the nickname of “bear”. He was the producer of the album and had a hand in defining the legacy of the band.

Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead Pack – Release Date and Price
The pack is releasing with three sneakers in the following colors: Yellow, Green, and Orange. Each of the colorways has a different release date and a point of sale.
Orange
The Orange Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead is releasing on the 18th of July for a retail price of $110. The Orange Dunk Low will be available exclusively at FTC San Fransisco.
The sneaker features a complete orange suede upper with furry overlays. Nike Swoosh branding on the laterals in a vibrant green with zig-zag outlines. A Grateful Dead marching bear branding on the tongue and a green outsole finish up the design.
Yellow
The Yellow Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead will be releasing on the 24th of July for a retail price of $110. It will be a skate shop and a Nike SNKRS exclusive so mark your calendars for that.
Looking at the official images for the Yellow SB Dunk Low, we can see the premium yellow suede upper with furry overlays and a blue outsole. Blue Nike Swooshes on the laterals that go all the way to the heel and of course the Grateful Dead marching bear branding on the tongue finishes up the design.
Green
Finally, The Green Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead will be releasing on the 24th of July for a retail price of $110. It will be a skate shop only exclusive.
Like it’s brothers, the Green Dunk Low has a premium green suede upper with furry overlays. The Nike swoosh comes in the same design but in a dark blue color with zig-zag accents. On the tongue we see a teal Grateful Dead marching bear and a blue outsole finish up the design.
Surprises within the Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead Pack
Each sneaker comes with a set of additional laces – the yellow and green pair comes with extra blue laces while the orange pair comes with green laces.
Moreover, on each pair, the tongue has a hidden pocket that is enclosed by a zipper. It’s quite efficient and spacious and you can store stuff such as cash or any other items that you might want to keep for safe holding.
Moreover, if you take the insole out of the sneaker, you will be able to see a band of marching bears as shown in the image below.

Now, my personal favorite colorway, the Yellow Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead will have an average resale value of $1800-$1900.
