Coming back to the Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black, it may not be of much an interest to others. However, this is a special shoe for Raptor fans and I’ll explain why.
Skip to conclusion for summarized information.
Nike Shox Technology
The Nike Shox is perhaps one of the most hi-tech looking sneakers out there. That’s all thanks to its sleek design, most noticeably the heel.
Nike has been doing energy return soles before Adidas even started its boost technology. It was created by legendary designer Bruce Kilgore in 1984, 3 years prior to introducing the Air Max.
Inspired by the tech of the track. Nike knew they could implement this in a sneaker and executed it perfectly. It took a total of 16 years of effort to finalize the concept.
BB stands for basketball. While the “4” stands for the 4 pillars that sit atop the heel counter. The Nike shox however, lost its appeal over time and was ousted for “better” lightweight shoes.
Whether they are better or not is up for debate. Fact is the sneaker had some serious hype back in the early 2000’s.
At the time, the sneakers had so much hype that kids during the 2000’s actually believed it could make you fly. And I’ll tell you why.
Nike BB4 Shox & Vince Carter/Vince “Shox” the World
Vince Carter, perhaps the greatest Dunker of all time is associated with 2 famous moments in basketball history. The first one was at the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk contest known as the “Elbow Dunk”.
The second greatest moment was during the summer Olympics. The United States national team was playing against France when Carter jumped almost completely over a 7-feet man (Frederic Weis) and secured possibly the greatest dunk of all time.
This propelled Vince Carter into even greater stardom than ever before. A national hero to some for his superman like slam dunk.
What’s also very interesting however, are the sneakers he wore when he made that historic dunk. It was the Nike BB4 shox that Carter used to shock the world.
Nike could not have asked for better advertisement and that came with what is known as “Le Dunk De La Mort”. Translating to, the dunk of death.
Although the sneakers lost some hype over the years, they may be making a comeback. The resale however is still pretty dull.
To estimate the resale value of the Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black. Let’s look at a few similar colorways.
Nike Shox BB4 Black Cement Red
Retail Price: $160
Peak Resell: $225
Release Date: 02/04/2020
Colorway: Black/Cement Grey-Gym Red
This sneaker looks incredible. The beautiful black and grey leather upper contrasted by red hits throughout the sneaker is sure to turn heads
A grey Nike “Swoosh” and a Gym Red shox unit finishes off what is one of my favorite designs ever. The resale however, is not too good at all.
According to StockX, the trade range is between $128-$158 with the average price being $122. Basically they’ve bricked pretty hard and show no signs of recovery.
At peak resale however, profits of around $60 is possible before tax and service fees.
Nike BB4 Shox Patent Black
Retail Price: $170
Peak Resell: $225
Release Date: 02/13/2020
Colorway: White/Metallic Silver-Black-Racer Blue
This sneaker features a black patent leather upper grey mudguards and metallic silver overlay. It also rocks sporty blue hits throughout the sneaker giving it a cool futuristic vibe.
The resale for these are not good either. The trade range is between $93-$141 with the average price being $128. That again is pretty unprofitable.
It probably has to do with the low hype plus the large production quantity of the sneakers. At peak resale, profit is around $55 before tax and service fees.
Nike Shox BB4 Toronto Raptors (2019)
Retail Price: $170
Peak Resell: $399
Release Date: 08/25/2019
Colorway: White/Metallic Silver-Court Purple
This was the first colorway Nike released to pay homage to Vince Carter for his time with the Toronto Raptors. The over-all sneakers are a much cleaner version of the Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black.
It features an all-white leather upper that seems to be synthetic rather than genuine. Graphics around the sides represent raptor claws. Purple and blue hits throughout the sneaker finishes off the design.
The resale is pretty much the same story. These kicks just aren’t profitable at all. The average price is $173 meaning you’ll still be losing money after tax and service fees.
Resale of the Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black will likely be most similar to this colorway.
Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black
Retail Price: $170
Estimated Resell: $160-$175
Release Date: 06/15/2020
Colorway: Black/Court Purple-University Red
After Nike debuted its alternate white version in August 2019. They’re going to commemorate Vince carter’s career once again with the Nike Shox BB4 Raptors Black.
This is also in celebration of the reigning champions before season playoffs begin and their title is put on the line.
The shoe features a black synthetic leather with scaly detailing. Perhaps to resemble the skin of a raptor? Along the sides is also graphics of a claw mark as a nod to the Raptors.
You can also find a three tonal stripe that represents the Raptor’s team colors. Lastly, a black out-sole and “Court Purple” Shox pistons finish off the design.
Resale Value
Judging by the colorways discussed above. It seems like these sneakers are very unprofitable with no profit margins at all post release. Some profits are possible before the official release but even that’s pretty rare.
To get your money back after tax and service charges you will need to sell for at least $202. With my estimated resale value of $160-$170, selling beyond that appears to be a lofty dream.
I’d suggest skipping this sneaker if you’re looking to cop purely for resale.
Where to Cop
These shouldn’t be too hard of a cop as hype is particularly low. If you’re a Raptors fan then I suppose you’re in luck.
You’ll have to wait for a stateside drop a few more days after the Asian release on Nike.com. They first drop at select Asian retailers.
You can also find them on re-seller websites such as StockX and GOAT.
