Two Powerhouses – Nike and Supreme
Nike SB and Supreme have shared a few legendary moments together as they’ve both risen to the top as the gold standard in sneakers and streetwear. Over the past couple decades as Supreme got it’s start, and Nike continued to climb the ranks as a sportswear icon, we can look back at some of the important sneakers that have had serious staying power in the footwear space.Image via Shredz Shop It all started in 2002, 8 years into Supreme’s life. This was a special time as the Nike Skateboarding division had just been launched. The two linked up for a skateboarding sneaker that drew inspiration from the Air Jordan 3. If you can believe it, the shoes retailed for only $65. Right now if you tried to get a pair, I’d expect to pay $4,000-$5,000. Later in 2012 they released a red iteration that was just as popular and actually my favorite of the trio.Image via Sole Collector In 2019, Supreme came back with another SB Dunk capsule. This leather and jewel swoosh group retailed for $110 and to be fair they kind of flopped in the beginning. But with such a big Dunk craze going on, they’ve had more popularity and resale has risen to around $275-$300.Image via Sneaker News The real inspiration for new collection is the original “Stars” pack from 2003. Again these retailed for a measly $65 and now resell anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000. Some would consider them some of the best SBs of all time.
The Details
Though we won’t be getting Orange, Red, or Uni Blue options, we will be getting the croc-skinned, gold star-printed aesthetic that we know so well in an SB Dunk Low. Color codes are in order as: Hyper Blue, Mean Green, Black, and Barkroot Brown. Here are a bunch of the official images, with scattered colorways highlighting certain touches on the shoes. Conclusion and Resale Anticipation
Resale is obviously through the roof for these sneakers. On paper they should be one of the most hyped Nike SB Dunks to release in recent memory. With the original Dunk Highs selling into the mid-4 figures, Our hope is that these can immediately flip for $500-$600 and only climb more as time goes on. As for a release date and platform, nothing has been official yet. Rumors are that they’ll be apart of Supreme’s Spring/Summer 21 season and/or a SNKRS release. Stay tuned for updates.
