Reebok/A Trend Setter
Catalog of 1980’s famous Reebok sneakers Via Grailed
Reebok has been around forever. Like since the 1800s when actual cow-boys roamed the West. It was founded by Joseph William Foster in 1980 in Bolton.
He was a massive sports enthusiast and had an idea to make sneakers better than ever. You see, he was an innovator and created a legacy through his ideas after recognizing untapped potential in the sports industry.
His idea was to use spikes on out-soles for better traction and enable faster sprinting performance. He called his company the JW Foster and Sons Incorporate after founding it in 1985.
After 1958 however, the name didn’t sound too appealing any more so the founder’s grandsons decided to change it. They were inspired by an animal known as ‘rhebok’ in South Africa.
It translates to Antelope which is a mammal that roams the savannas of Africa. They’re extraordinarily fast and that’s where the grandsons got the idea of “Reebok”.
In 1979, they were the most expensive shoes on the market after coming to the US. Paul Firemen got the distribution license and made a fortune in the process, selling the hottest kicks on the market.
In 1982 however, they introduced the Reebok Freestyle which blew up and became an instant hit. It was their first women’s sneaker, made specifically for a new exercise called the “aerobic dance”.
The shoe was such a hit that it encouraged many other trends within the market. Companies followed what Reebok would start for a long time to come.
Reebok Question & Allen Iverson
Originally released in 1996, The Reebok Question was Allen Iverson’s first signature sneaker. It first released in both mid-top and a low-top variants.
Allen Iverson had made history by becoming rookie of the year in his draft class. The class included legends such as Kobe Bryant and many other NBA stars.
Eventually, he would cross Michael Jordan and make history in the Reebok Question. Since then, various colorways and re-iterations have been released with decent success.
The resale however is a hit or miss in most cases. Let’s look on over to StockX and see how the Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue might do on the resale market.
Reebok Question Mid Blue Toe (2016)
Retail Price: $140
Peak Resell: $400
Release Date: 12/09/2016
This classic colorway released on Reebok Question’s 20th anniversary. It sports a similar color tone to the Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue. It comes with a metallic blue toe, red Reebok branding and ice blue soles.
They’re also quite profitable as its value has gradually increased over time. The trade range on StockX is between $290-$390 with the average price being $227. To sum it up, re-sellers are making pretty good money per pair.
Reebok Question Low White Red Ice
Retail Price: $115
Peak Resell: $285
Release date: 07/25/2015
Colorway: White/Flash Red-Ice
This sneaker features a tumbled white leather upper with Flash red hits throughout. A red leather toe, lateral, tongue and, rear Reebok branding embellish the striking white upper. An ice Blue sole finishes off the design.
The resale for these also offers decent lunch money. The trade range is between $158-$242 with the average price being $214. That’s also a decent average profit of $99 before service fees and tax.
Had you sold these at peak resale. Profit would have been as high as $170.
Reebok Question Low Oat Meal (2020)
Retail Price: $120
Peak Resell: $282
Release Date: 05/07/2020
Colorway: White/Oat Meal-Ice
This sneaker features an all-white tumbled leather with a sued Oat meal toe box. Oat meal hits throughout the sneaker can also be seen. A white mid-sole and ice blue out-sole finishes off the design.
The resale for these again shows small decent profits. The average price is a decent $176 which is $56 in profits before tax and service fees. Had you sold these at peak resale, profit would have been as high as $162.
The Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue will likely follow similar pattern.
Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue
Retail Price: $120
Estimated Resell: $150-$180
Release Date: 06/18/2020
Colorway: White/Fluid Blue and White/Vivid Orange
The Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue arrive in summer-vibe color tones. Both sport completely different sides of the color spectrum while twinning in a similar silhouette.
This time around, the silhouette seems to be a slimmed down version of Allen Iverson’s signature sneaker. Providing more of a modern sporty look than what has been called a “Dad Shoe”.
The sneakers are covered in a white tumbled leather, embellished by either blue or orange patent leather. A number “3” can be found on the rear of the sneaker signifying Allen’s jersey number.
Each heel uses both DMX and Reebok’s own cushioning for comfort and a unique aesthetic. Ice Blue out-soles on both sneakers finish off the design.
Take a closer look with these crisp shots.
Resale Estimation
Judging by the similar sneakers previously mentioned above, I expect small but sure profits.
The Reebok Question Low Vivid Orange and Fluid Blue are expected to sell for a little above retail, however, the low price offers higher profit margins.
After using a standard US tax rate and service fee, you will need to sell for at least $140 to get your money back. Thus you’re looking at estimated profits of around $10-$40.
Taking a look over at StockX, you’ll see higher bids for the Question Low Fluid Blue.
Bids for Reebok Question Low Fluid Blue Via StockX
Currently, Bids and sale are around $200 while they’re lower for the Vivid orange. Thus I expect higher profits for the Fluid Blue colorway.
Where to Cop
