Reebok probably isn’t up there anymore with Nike, Adidas or even Under Armour. However, they’ve had their years of domination and are still one of the most popular shoes today under the big 3.

Joseph William Foster in 1980 Bolton recognized huge market potential in sneakers. He had the idea of adding spikes to the out-sole for far superior traction so that athletes could perform better.

Later in 1958, the company which he named JW Foster and Sons Incorporate, changed to ‘Reebok’. His grandson thought the old name was out dated and got the inspiration from an antelope.

The reason was obvious, antelopes roam the African Savannah for hours without getting tired and are extraordinarily fast. Thus the name felt like a great fit for the company.

After entering the US market in 1978, it wasn’t until 1982 that Reebok saw dominating success. Their introduction of the Reebok Freestyle was a game changing addition. Made for a new women’s dance known as ‘aerobics’, the Freestyle really put Reebok on the map.

One of their most popular sneakers today is the Reebok Question. Released in 1996, the Reebok Question was Allen Iverson’s first signature sneaker.

Allen Iverson caught the eye of Reebok after a few stellar performances including being Rookie of the year in his draft class. It wasn’t any ordinary class however, it included the likes of Kobe Bryant and other NBA rising stars. Making it one of the most difficult ROTY awards ever won.

James Harden on the other hand, had a slightly different route. Initially having worked with Nike, it seemed Harden would only be limited to PE releases as Nike didn’t believe in him as much as in Kyrie and Kobe among their other star athletes.

After averaging 27 PPG, Harden caught the German Company’s attention very quickly and was offered his own signature shoe. Their first sneaker released in 2015, known as the Triple White Adidas Crazy Light.

His sneakers includes boost technology, a modern touch, while the toe box is made of leather to keep it classy and timeless.
