Before we take a detailed look at the Air Jordan 12 Retro Royalty, let walk you through a bit of history and see how valuable this silhouette is today.
Air Jordan 12 | History and Resale
- This special silhouette was released in 1996-1997 in only a handful of colorways and retroed for the first time in 2003.
- The design was inspired by Japanese culture including rays of the Japanese Rising Sun while the shape, on the other hand, was modeled after a women’s boot known as a stiletto.
- The “taxi” colorway was first released in 1996, as the debut colorway for the Jordan 12 silhouette and ever since has remained quite highly sought-after.
- This colorway was re-released multiple times including in 2003, in 2011, in 2018, and finally, in 2019 in a “reversed” colorway that featured a predominantly black upper.
- Resale for the Jordan 12s hasn’t been exceptionally high and usually yields a little above lunch money for most. The recent Air Jordan 12 Twist and Indigo, for example, barely break even.
To estimate resale for the Air Jordan 12 Royalty Taxi, let’s head on over to StockX.
Air Jordan 12 Retro Taxi (2018)
- Retail Price: $190
- Average Resell: $320
- Release Date: Sunday, March 18th, 2021
- Colorway: White/Black-Taxi-Varsity Red
This Jordan 12 features a cracked white leather upper on the medial and the toes while black reptilian texture covers the lower half of the sneakers aside from the rear panels.
Throats lead up to a pair of white leather tongues contrasted by black sock liners and Jump-Man logos. Meanwhile, metallic gold eyelet panels shimmer amidst the black and white shades.
Black midsoles and outsoles complete the look.
The average selling price of these sneakers is around $300 which is over $100 in gross profits. The latest “Royalty Taxi” colorway will likely have a lower resale value.
Air Jordan 12 Royalty Taxi | A Closer Look
- Retail Price: $190
- Estimated Resell: $240
- Release Date: Saturday, November 13th, 2021
- Colorway: WHITE/BLACK-METALLIC GOLD
This re-release of the Jordan 12 Taxi may carry a different moniker but its aesthetics remain close to identical compared to the OGs that dropped back in 1996.
White cracked leather covers the upper half of the shoe, appearing on the collars, quarter panels, throats, and on parts of the toe.
Black pebbled faux reptilian leather appears on the toes while mudguards wear golden bands with “JORDAN” branding that adds a touch of “royalty” and complements the similarly hued eye-let panels.
Black laces, golden labels on the throats, and golden Jump-Man logos on the tongues provide a touch more contrast while black heel tabs, black midsoles, and outsoles with grey snakeskin patterns complete the look.
