Air Jordan 6| History

Nike Air Jordan 6 OG Infrared Black History
From Jordan

The Air Jordan 6 was a special sneaker especially to Michael Jordan himself. It was the sneaker he wore when he played for his first title and also when he first won the NBA MVP.

Once again, designed by Tinker Hatfield, he made sure this shoe was unique in its own way. Michael Jordan stated that he wanted a clean toe, thus Hatfield came up with a special design.

The surrounding toe area was reinforced, making the Air Jordan 6 one of a kind at the time.

The Air Jordan 6 came out in 1991 with 5 original colorways and sold for $125. The Air Jordan 6 kept releasing every year including the Defining Moments pack 2020 and the recently released Air Jordan 6 Singles’ Day.

The legacy continues to this day, with some pairs being very profitable to resell. Some sneakers, however, remain enshrined in the hearts of fans way more than others. To remember the best of them, here’s our list of the Top 5 Best Air Jordan 6s of All Time.

The Air Jordan 6 Sport Blue released in 1991 and was the first Air Jordan 6 colorway of its kind. This colorway deviated from the Chicago Bulls’ own color tones and instead, opted for blue highlights instead of the typical black and red.

A white leather upper is contrasted by a black ankle collar and heel pull. Meanwhile, a sporty blue is featured on the midsole and tongues. A semi-translucent outsole completes the design.

This may be a controversial one, but how do we not give the Air Jordan 6 DMP a spot on our list. These sneakers released in celebration of Michael Jordan’s legendary two 3-peats during the 1990s.

The sneakers feature a black leather upper with golden highlights along with the midsole that takes a nod at Jordan’s championship victories.

The average selling price today is over $350 while they’ve also been sold for as high as $500.

This OG colorway was left without a proper retro for years, making fans beg Jordan Brand for a retro release. These sneakers were so popular that once a retro colorway was confirmed to release in 2015, the sneaker world caught fire.

These kicks featured an off-white leather upper with its signature stripe-like overlay and perforations. Maroon hits can be seen throughout the sneaker and a tan semi-translucent outsole completes the look.

They’re currently selling for over $300 on reseller’s websites.
