Skip to the conclusion for those in a hurry.

Nike Dunk | A Brief History

Nike Dunk High History Colorways Aract

Released in 1985 and designed by Peter Moore, the Nike Dunk received a pretty mediocre welcome. Believe it or not, during the 1990s and early 2000s, you could walk into some store days after a release and simply buy a Dunk Low off of the shelves.

It wasn’t until 2002, after the release of the SB Dunk low that Dunks gained the prestige that they have today.

The regular Dunks still have a very rich history within basketball and streetwear culture. Nike rode the wave of basketball popularity and established the “College Colors Program”.

As part of the campaign, Nike released college-themed Dunks for a few basketball Universities. At the time, there were 12 schools under Nike, each receiving their very own Dunk.

Over the years, the hype for the Dunks has skyrocketed and 2020 has been one of the best years ever for the silhouette. Nike re-released a bunch of Dunk lows such as the Dunk Low Syracuse and Kentucky among others. All of which sold out within seconds and were very profitable.

This begs the question though, will Nike Dunk’s popularity continue in 2021?

Along with the Dunk Lows, the Dunk Highs have been almost just as successful in 2020. Starting from the release of the Dunk High Slam Jam, fans already knew that it was going to be a good year.

The Swoosh also dropped an insanely hyped AMBUSH x Nike Dunk High collaboration. The resale values of which were hundreds of dollars above retail.

Moreover, we also saw a plethora of retro college-themed Dunk Highs. The Hyped Nike Dunk High Michigan being one of them.

After a very strong 2020, it appears the momentum has been carried over to 2021. In the first few months alone, fans received the Dunk High Football Grey and Vast Grey.

Judging by their resale values, I’d say the Dunks are still as popular as ever. To estimate resale for the Nike Dunk High EMB Lakers, let’s head on over to StockX.

Assessing similar sneakers may give us a good idea of what to expect.

Releasing just a month prior, this Dunk High features premium suede materials. Swapping out a performance feel for a rather lifestyle one.

Dark Russet covers the side panels, toe boxes, and collars that appear to be dark leather. However, in actuality, it’s a dark brown suede construction.

Meanwhile, hairy velvet-brown overlays cover the eye stays, toe regions, and rear panels. Although it’s called brown, it definitely carries an orange tinge. Dark Curry leather Swooshes, white midsoles, and Sail outsoles complete the design.

The average selling price for this Dunk High is currently $185. It used to be higher, however, the average price has continuously declined since the release date.

Nike Dunk High EMB Lakers | A Detailed Look

Retail Price: $110

Estimated Resell: $270-$310

Release Date: May/28/2021

Colorway: Black/Opti Yellow-Court Purple-White

It’s been long since Nike has used any sort of bold color blocking on the Nike Dunk High. This Lakers-Inspired Dunk High is just what some fans have been yearning for.

These sneakers feature a dual construction with canvas underlays and leather overlays. Black textured canvas covers the side panels and semi-perforated toe boxes. All of which sit beneath snap-back-inspired tongues.

Meanwhile, Court Purple covers the eye stays, toe regions, and rears. Speaking of the rear, the “EMB” likely refers to “embossed”. More than likely referring to the Lakers-Inspired “Nike” font on the rear that’s also dressed in similar color tones.

On the lateral sides, vibrant yellow Swooshes provide contrast while the interiors feature green footbeds with Nike graphics.

Crisp white midsoles and plain black outsoles complete the design.

We’ve already seen how Dunk Highs are still quite profitable on reseller’s markets. Although not as hyped as Dunk Lows, any Dunk Highs should also definitely be on your must-cop list.

These High-Tops in particular feature an exciting new colorway. So I believe they’ll resell for slightly higher prices. Using my estimated resell value, expect gross profits of around $180-$200. That’s a “Hype” according to our Hype Meter!
