Revisiting a Hidden Sneaker Gem
Continuing to dig into its archives, Nike is now preparing an updated Dunk Low “Samba” for a global release. Set to arrive later this month, the shoe was originally released back in 2001 as a Japan-exclusive. This edition from 2001 never saw a stateside release but now in 2020 it appears it will, which will result in a lot of demand.
Set to see a wider release, the updated edition remains true to the OG centered around a premium leather construction with a “Hyper Blue” base framed by silver toe box and mid panels. Adding to the bold accenting are the “Samba Red” midfoot Swooshes, “NIKE” embroidered heel tabs and Nike Swoosh tongue tags. Rounding up the design of the shoes are clean white laces, matching sockliner, “Hyper Blue” printed insoles, and white midsoles paired with “Samba Red” rubber outsoles.
Quick question though, where is Adidas in all this and letting the Swoosh jock the Samba moniker?
What the Dunk is up?
There’s an abundance of fire Dunks on the market now, take your pick. Whether they’re SB Dunks or not, people are still willing to put up stacks on the secondary market for these. Let’s touch on some releases from this year so far.
Recently, we’ve seen the Grateful Dead SB Dunks hit the market. Most definitely a whacky, polarizing pack of sneakers. Honorable mention for the most outlandish Dunk has to be the Chunky Dunky as well.
Virgil definitely did his thing on these Off White Dunks inspired by college sports teams.
Let’s not forget to mention this trio of Dunks consisting of the Brazil, the University Red, and the Champs Colors.
The Samba Dunks have gotten their fair share of hype in the past month or so. I have to be straight right away, every size will be very profitable. I would suggest going for bigger sizes in the half sizes for the best chance to get a pair. The most profitable sizes for reselling will most likely be the super small sizes like 4-6 mens. Everyone has their own style so do what you see fit.
Sales right now are in the high $300 and $400 range. Once pairs are in hand look for them to be in the high $200’s. I would suggest holding these for a 6 months at least. We’ve seen shoes like the Syracuse and Kentucky almost double in value even seen after the release. It’s more than likely the Sambas could do the same.
