The Nike SB division has been on a real hot streak for the past year or so. Whether it’s releasing new models and colorways, or flipping and remastering classics we love – we’re still getting a good spark from the swoosh and their skateboarding sneakers.

With an extremely short heads up and notice, the Nike SB Dunk High is getting the Skunk treatment. The official name is the “420” while some are dubbing it the “Reverse Skunk”. If you’re unaware, in 2010 there was an original “Skunk” Dunk that blazed the trail for special 4/20 themed releases. We’ll get into the origin story later. I’m excited to talk to you guys about this one.

Be on the lookout for the 420 Dunk Highs to be in stock on the Nike SNKRS app or web store this Monday, April 20th. Per usual, stick around to see why we’re the best place to get info on newly releasing shoes, culture and history around them, and how to resell them. Even if you’re new to the game, check out more of our valuable content that talks about the opportunity to start a self made business and cash in. Read all the stories and see the success!

If you’re not interested in a history of the sneaker or details, feel free to skip to the end of the post to get more of the valuable release info.

a CLOSER LOOK

As I alluded to earlier the “420” SB Dunk is a flip off a beloved Dunk from the archives – the “Skunk” Dunk from 2010. Since this is the 10 year anniversary, it only makes sense that Nike goes back to their stash give us a touch up on a classic.

Many have said that 4/20 releases haven’t been the same since then but this year that may just change that for the better. The brand has revealed not one but two celebratory colorways. The first, which was unfortunately postponed, showed some love to the “Strawberry Cough” strain and this next iteration with similar inspiration – budding from Purple Haze.

Outfitted in a vast array of suede fabrications, the pair cuts quite close to the aforementioned in texture while the colors seem to flip the palette for a take that can easily be coined the Reverse Skunk Dunk. Much of the paneling doses two different shades of purple, swooshes and toolings mark with a vibrant cannabis-like green, the insole adds a fittingly festive Skunk graphic, and the inside tongue hides a well-concealed stash pocket.

It’s also possible that the release will be limited to a total of 420 as the lateral heel stamps with a “1/420” debossing.

Take a peek at some of the more detailed shots.

More from NIKE SB – Past and Present

On to my favorite part. Time to reminisce on the countless hits we’ve seen from Nike SB, particularly geared to our stoner’s favorite holiday.

To bring it back to Nike SB’s first celebration in 2004, the “Hemp” Dunk Low was a massive hit. Other Dunks have since tried to ride the wave in later years with a hemp theme but never have gotten the same buzz as the first.

Another eclectic release was the “Cheech and Chong” Dunk High in 2011. With inspiration from the bud smoking duo’s mismatching red headwear, this sneaker had tremendous success and still resells into the mid $1000 range. There is a furry green layer under its white paper-like upper that gets revealed as more wear and tear occurs. I think you can read between the lines. Very clever.

Last but not least is one of my personal favorites! Just last year on 4/20, Nike dropped the “Dog Walker” Dunk High. Amazing details of doo doo on the milky outsole, multiple hairs and patterns, and a ballistic leash material on the swoosh. Complete with a dog tag and poop bags. Shortly after release these weren’t going for too much over their $110 retail. Since then they’ve now sky rocketed to almost $400. I hope to add these to my collection but should have pulled the trigger on them earlier!

Resale Anticipation

All signs point that there will only be 420 pairs released – indicated on the shoe itself and what we covered earlier. This is astronomically small if you’re having trouble understanding the logistics of sneakers. Initial Yeezys that resold for hundreds or thousands had releases around 10,000 pairs. A general release Jordan may get a million pairs flooding retailers. So put that into perspective.

You will either have to be extremely lucky, or have some STRONG connections to get these 420s. There’s no word on the price point yet but traditionally, Nike SBs are usually $100 or $110. Not often do they surpass $140. Potential resale profit would indicate anywhere from $800 to $2000 but it’s hard to say exactly.
