Skip to the conclusion for those in a hurry
Nike Skateboarding
The Nike Dunk was a product of inspiration from a lot of previous Nike sneakers.
Peter Moor, who also designed other popular Nike sneakers such as the Air Jordan 1 and the Terminator, took inspiration from those sneakers and came up with the Nike Dunk.
Initially, they only wanted the Dunk to be a basketball sneaker with no idea of an entirely new untapped market with a lot of potentials.
The realization came when they made too many of the Air Jordan 1s which started sitting on shelves collecting dust. Due to lack of demand, it saw various price cuts that attracted a different consumer base.
Skateboarders that wanted a low-cost sneaker with good traction and ankle support, saw the Air Jordan as the perfect sneaker and started to adopt it as their primary skateboarding shoes.
The Nike Dunk launched in 1985 with a more advanced design than its predecessors. It came at an ideal time and reinvigorated basketball culture for many. The SB Dunk, however, was officially released in 2002 and was directly inspired by it.
Popularity for Nike Skateboarding has soared so high that they’ve even left their regular basketball counterparts, the Nike Dunk, behind.
Nike SB Wheat| A Fan Favorite
The wheat colorway among Nike’s catalog has always been a popular colorway for many, especially during the fall/winter seasons. It’s been used on various silhouettes such as the Air Force 1 Wheat and many previous Nike Dunks.
The “Wheat” Nike Dunks were inspired by a highly sought after SB Dunk from 2002 known as the Reese Forbes x Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat. As the name suggests, the sneaker was a collaboration with Reese Forbes, a Skateboarder from Washington who went pro in 1995.
Interestingly, he represented Nike SB during his competitions around the world and helped create a few Nike SB sneakers. The Reese Forbes SB Dunk featured a tan/wheater upper with matching overlay all over. It retailed for $60, however, today it resells for over $1,000 per pair.
It inspired quite a few Nike SB Dunks that also have respectable resale values. To estimate resale for the latest Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha 2020, let’s head on over to StockX.
Nike SB Dunk High Wheat
Retail Price: $65
Peak Resell: $1,900
Release Date: 10/01/2002
Colorway: Wheat/Brown
This Nike SB Dunk High also released back in 2002 with a winter/fall-ready upper, giving the shoe a boot-like appearance. It features a smooth leather upper with the only contrast provided by the brown overlay on the tongue and laces.
The blue interior provides an added layer of details while also presenting itself along with the corners of the tongue. A darker brown midsole and tan outsole complete the look of this OG Nike SB Dunk.
Obviously resale for these kicks is also very high. They retailed for $65, yet the resale prices today average at around $900 which is a gross profit of over $800 per pair. At peak resale prices, resellers have actually earned profits of over $1,800! The Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha will likely not have resale as high, however, I still expect decent profits.
Nike Dunk High Vac Tech Wheat
Retail price: $115
Peak Resell: $250
Release Date: 11/01/2011
Colorway: Wheat
This Nike SB Dunk High Wheat features an almost identical upper to the aforementioned SB with a few minor differences. It’s also very similar to the Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha with the exception of having a white midsole instead of a black one.
The overlay is also more monotoned, featuring a similar color all over the upper, including the ‘Swoosh’, collars, side panels, and tongues. A white midsole and tan outsole completes its fairly minimalistic design.
The market for these is also quite unsubstantial with only under 5 sales in total on StockX. The average reselling price is $190 while at peak resale prices, gross profits are as high as $135.
Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat (2017)
Retail Price: $100
Peak Resell: $700
Release Date: 05/25/2017
Colorway: Wheat
This Nike SB Dunk Low is almost identical to its 2020 modern counterpart, featuring a similar colorway and silhouette. The differences are minor and from the photos revealed by Nike, it seems to be a lighter-toned version of the Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha 2020.
On StockX, the average reselling price per pair is just shy of $300 which is an average gross profit of almost $200 per pair. At peak resale prices, gross profits are as high as $600 per pair.
Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha 2020| Closer Look
Retail price: $100
Estimated Resell $220
Release Date: December/05/2020
Colorway: Wheat/Baroque Brown-Gum
Similar to the Nike SB Dunk Low Reverse Reese Forbes Wheat sneakers, these come dressed in suede wheat uppers from heel to toe. These winter-ready sneakers are the perfect ones to rock this season, if you can get your hands on them that is.
From one end to the other, the Nike SB Dunk Low Wheat Mocha embraces darker wheat colors with tan lining around the collars, laces, tongues, and toe regions. Darker brown branding can be found on the heel tabs and tongues. However, the only real noticeable contrast is provided by the midsole which comes in a Baroque brown.
Insoles also feature a fully wheat color with dark brown Nike branding. A gum rubber outsole completes this seasonally matched look. Take a moment to enjoy Nike’s official images.
