Nike Dunk Low History

Although the Nike Dunk Low Disrupt is no “SB” dunk, the normal Dunks are still extremely popular in 2020. They have a rich history and I’ll briefly walk you through it.

Before the Nike SB Dunk, the Nike Dunk released in 1985 as a regular basketball shoe. The difference between the two is mostly limited to the tongue and soles. The Nike Dunk has un-padded nylon or mesh tongues while the SB Dunks have padded tongues and Zoom Air Pods.

Before the establishment of the Nike SB division, Skaters looked towards the Air Jordan 1 and Dunk Lows as their go-to skating shoes. They provided excellent traction and ankle support so they thought, why not?

Since the 1980s and after a few material changes, the Nike Dunk low is more so a lifestyle shoe than a performance one. The inclusion of sued since the 1990s proved this to be true. However, 3M reflective panels and mini packs enabled the sneakers to easily fuse grip tapes on the upper.

This inclusion was very well suited for Skateboarding fans that decided to adopt the Nike Dunk Low. Ultimately, through scarce distribution and adaptive development, the Nike Dunk low has become simply iconic.

Retail Price: $110

Estimated Resell: $200-$300

Release Date: September/4/2020

Colorway: Game Royal/Gym Red/Black White/Photon Dust

The Nike Dunk Low Disrupt is Nike’s re-imagination of the Dunk low by foregoing its iconic curves for a boxier appearance. At first glance, it is evident that design cues have been taken from Nike’s 1980’s basketball shoe line up. Particularly the 1984 Air Train.

The sneakers feature mesh uppers while the overlay is embellished by iconic team tones colors made of leather. These sneakers come with an exposed padded tongue and exaggerated heel tabs for easier entry.

The sneakers come in 4 colorways. The first one is the Nike Dunk Low Disrupt Gym Red with bright red overlay and hints of grey on the side panels.

The Nike Dunk Low Disrupt White Blue or “Game Royal” features a clean white upper with blue overlay. Almost identical to the Dunk Low SP “Kentucky”.

Then there’s the Black White colorway and finally a crisp white version known as “Photon Dust”.
